mature content for a 4 year old...
I'm new to steptalk but I've been reading some blogs for a few days, mostly while we were snowed in last week during our epic storm.
I decided to join and post my first blog entry. I'm engaged, he has one daughter, she's 4. And my motivation for posting today is because SD4 startled me today by singing "if you want to be my lover," and "if you want to get with me." She had been asking me this evening if I like "spy girls," I didn't realize she meant Spice Girls until she sang the lyrics. She said her mom lets her listen to Spice Girls. She also said she wants to dress up pretty like those girls.
She also said, when we pulled up to walgreens that when her mom and her mom's BF go to the liquor store she has to stay in the car. Then later she announces that we should go get wine and beer.
I mean, at 4 she tells me when she wipes that she hopes blood isn't on the toilet paper b/c her mom told her girls bleed down there. ....I just think it's too much for a small child. And her BM tells her she can sleep without panties if her shirt covers her "va-jay-jay" so BM's BF can't see.
It's just disturbing hearing that from a 4 year old, and it's awkward because there isn't anything I feel like I can say or do.
Well that's my first rant! I look forward to reading everyone else's!

WOW!! I would be concerned
WOW!! I would be concerned too!! StepParenting is very difficult and it's this stuff that makes it just sickening! When my SD was 7 she told me she watches rated R movies at her Moms' and she wanted to watch SuperBad at our house!! Ummmmmm Hell NO!! I simply stated that it's rated R for a reason, that you have to be 17 to watch them and when she is at "Our" home she cannot. I have two skids and they were way over exposed in such ways at BMs home too, It makes me sick and sad. Ppl actually sit and wonder whats going on in the world too!! DUH DA.... Kids live in a totally different world then Adults and exposing them to "our" world isn't a good thing, there is just no way they can understand the severity of such subjects and it also makes them comfortable with sex, drugs, profanity, violence so they think they know it and can live it. My DS and FDD (I hope, HaHa) are raised with Morals, Values, Wholesomeness and yeah!! End of Story!!
You hit the nail on the head
You hit the nail on the head with "if it is having a profoundly bad effect on the child, then what?" My BF feels conflicted about what he should ask BM to do in her own house. *sigh* it feels like a catch 22. You're damned if you do say something because you know shit will hit the fan, and you're damned if you don't say something because you can see it obviously affecting her.
Thank you for sharing Katrinkie2!
Oh wow all these comments
Oh wow all these comments were so helpful and bolstering. Thank you so much. It's sad that there are so many kids out there having to deal with this mature material! Thank you for sharing with me.
