OT but need to get it out of my system - INSANE IN-LAWS
This is really long and convoluted. I'm writing this simply to get it out of my system. If you have any insane in-law stories, I'd love to know that we're not the only ones! I have to wonder if any family is normal, or if there is always drama, but I wasn't exposed to it as much since I didn't have anybody but my immediate family growing up.
OT: SIL and FB
I've blogged in the past about how awful my SIL (DH's sister) is. I could write a novel about all the examples of why she is just a horrible, self-entitled selfish person. It's hard to believe DH is related to her, except she is similar to MIL, just a thousand times worse.

What would you feel?
SD25 is graduating with her Master's in May, on the other side of the country. Her entire life since she was emancipated has been funded by BM. Her new car, her apartment, her tuition is all paid for by BM. DH helped with the security deposit for the apartment, but that was it.

Just Grumbling...
Back to school night was this week for our DS4, and the little project waiting for us asked about our family. DS4 only said he had 2 brothers, so DH had to point out to him when we got home that he also has big sister SD25. I kept my mouth shut, but I didn't think it worth correcting a 4 year old about a half-sister who currently lives across the country and he sees maybe once or twice a year.

Deja Vu
When SD was a junior/senior in college, DH used to ask her what she was going to do when she graduated. She ended up getting a degree in Creative Writing, with a minor in Photography. SD did not know what she wanted to do, but knew she didn't want to write for a living. DH got her an internship at The Wall Street Journal at the time. Besides waiting tables, that was her sole professional experience before she graduated from college. He would offer suggestions, and she would ignore them. She waited tables for 2 years before deciding to go to grad school on BM's dime.

OT ADHD
I just got the "diagnosis" that my 4 year old son has ADHD. I say "diagnosis" because he is only 4 and the doctor only wanted it formalized so that he can continue with an IEP through kindergarten, but she does think he really has moderate ADHD. I thought of him as strong-willed, and doing #2 on the potty has been next to impossible for over a year, but I was surprised by the diagnosis. After talking to her, I now see the signs and agree with it.

Learned my lesson the hard way
I paid for SD24 to join us in Disney World. I know...what was I thinking?? In the 10 years I have been with DH, I've only spent the night with her once. That's how it should have stayed.

Another story that makes SMs look bad
I blogged recently about ex’s and funerals. Well, I just saw my friend and heard a story that makes me rethink my future actions when either BM or DH should pass (hopefully not for a very, very long time!)
My friend (BM in this case) was married to XH for 35 years. They have 2 adult children, SD and SS, and a few grandchildren. XH cheated on BM numerous times, and one of the affairs resulted in a child, although BM did not find out for many years. It may have been the catalyst to their divorce, but I’m sure it was only one of many reasons.

Stuck in the middle
I know I need to disengage a bit from SD24, but I seem unable to without causing more emotional upset.

Ex's and funerals
My friend's ex husband just died of a massive stroke yesterday. He was only 61. They'd been divorced a little over 10 years, and have children and grand-children. I found out because the xh was a member of my church and our minister sent out an email about it. His new wife is active in our church. My immediate feeling was to wonder how my friend is feeling, after having been married to him for nearly 30 years before divorcing him. I'm sure that has to make her feel a little odd, and maybe feel her mortality a little. I don't know.
