Antidepressants causing night terrors?

praying's picture

Let me just say that Ss used to have nightmares and night terrors when we first got him. But they became very infrequent after several months. We had a appointment with the psychiatrist who changed the dosages because the medication was not helping Ss as much as it should have. Ss also got a good talking to about him drinking while taking these medications. He has yet to show any guilt for this but that is another matter.

Aftermath of the confrontation

I am still in disbelief at what transpired on Friday. It was about the bottle of vodka I found in Ss's room. I told my husband as soon as he got home from work and he got very upset. I did not want to be involved in giving out the punishment but I told my Dh to make sure that he gives an appropriate punishment. He is notorious for letting things slide when it comes to Ss. I was going to be present when we talked to him about why he was drinking in the first place.

Vodka???

I was doing the weekly sweep of Ss's room. We take turns doing them every Friday when he is school. We have told him that we look through his room but I am not sure he truly believes us. We just want to make sure he isn't hiding he can hurt himself with.

Recieved Ss's progress report

The report just got emailed to our family email account. Ss at one point could not be bothered to give us anything from school so we get the reports emailed. Here is what he got. 65 in English, 71 in Math, 58 in Science and 63 in History. And the most infuriating part is the teacher's comments. All of them mentioned that he does excellent work in his assignments but leaves entire sections in his unit tests blank. He gets high 80's and 90's in assignments. They are the only things keeping him from failing. He knows the material. But he just sits there during test taking.

Reaching my limit

I am disgusted and angry. Because of the doctor prescribed soft diet and laxatives, Ss had an accident in his bed. I was disgusted. Of course, he was embarrassed. But that does not give him a reason to yell at me. So I calmly told him to stop yelling, and to get changed. He is turning red and asking me to get out. As I am turning to leave I told him he was being ridiculous. Then he responds with, "I hate you. I wish my mom was still here. She was a billion times better than you." I about lost it right then and there. How DARE he say I am worse than his mother.

Ss suspended for a week.

It was only a matter of time I feel. Ss finally snapped on a kid who was picking on him and they had a fight. The other kid actually ended up far worse with a bloody nose and black eye. Ss had some bruises. Both the boys were to be expelled. But my Dh went down and yelled at them a good bit because he told them to keep an eye on Ss but the teacher was letting the other kid pick on Ss during class. He threatened to sue and get the media involved and the school decided to suspend Ss for a week instead.

Back to school blues

School has started again. It is great that my kids don't have to hang around at home all day again but it means more frustrations from Ss. He started highschool yesterday and it was back to yelling and crying in our home. The kids in school are back to bullying him. He has not told us this but we can tell because he is refusing to go to school. My Dh had to drag him out to the car today.

Ashamed to call myself a mother

The dog has made some issues come up between the kids. Ss is refusing to share the dog with the other kids. He is only letting them play with the dog 30 minutes at the most then he takes her into his room. My Dh tried talking to Ss about it and Ss's response was that he did not want the dog to love my kids more than him, just like everyone else. He is very insecure so we thought we would give Ss some time alone with the dog and see that she will not leave him. After a few weeks we will make him share the dog more.

The dog is here!

Oh sweet Jesus, the dog has finally arrived. Ss got himeslf out of bed and went to the shelter after my Dh had to beg him to go. We called ahead and had them put the friendlier dogs out like someone suggested here. We did not want a repeat of last time. That was a great idea. The dogs just flocked to him. I even brough beef jerky to hide in his pocket just in case. But he did not even need that. The difference was amazing. Ss was actually smiling trying to deal with the dogs.
