Wildly inappropriate or inaccurate portrayals of step family life on TV and in film
What are some of the most offensive/inappropriate/naive/inaccurate scenes or story lines you have seen? Ever since I found myself stuck in this hell called steplife, my awareness of the world around me has sharpened considerably and now I notice things I never would have batted an eyelash at before.
I think pop culture depicting step life is a huge contributor to the unrealistic expectations, disappointments, and subsequent misery surrounding step life.
A recent observation:
Hi. My name is Mercury and it's been exactly 5 months and 7 days since I last said something bad about skids on a public forum.
And I'm falling off the wagon right NOW.
Getting attacked by a BM from hell
And it's not even my husband's crazy ex this time! lol.
I've been away from this site for a while because we have been dealing with our own BM problems but I had to come back to share another "BM from hell" story with you guys.

For your amusement
Last night DH and I were discussing his daughter's unhealthy, obsessive, oedipal complex (is it still called that when it's a daughter/mother thing instead of a son/mother thing?) or in other words....how SD13 is BM's mini-wife.
Somewhere in the course of the discussion, DH says: "Well, we all know that she's going to be a total hottie someday...."
I replied with a horrified "What?!?"
DH: "Oh come on, just LOOK how beautiful she is now."
Me: wtf written all over my face
DH: "Well she is."
And I vomit a little in my mouth.

Terrible children -- when do you just give up and walk away?
I didn't want to hijack the driver's permit blog but someone's post made me reflect on this question.
Internal_Combustion wrote: "He probably realizes [that she is using him], but she is his daughter and he doesn't care. Just wants to see her. I was an awful teenage girl, and my dad still wanted to see me. Go figure..."
Ok time to fess up --- Who is trying to cast spells on BM and/or skids and/or their DH?
The spam today is killing me.
BM found out that SHE might have to pay child support
I can just imagine how it went down too: "What?!?!?!? How can this be? But, but....I'm the MOTHER."
For those of you who don't know, my DH has paid 100% of the BCSO since his divorce even though he had the kids about half the time at the time his parenting plan was written. They didn't follow the state guidelines for calculating CS. She just came up with a $ amount that she needed in order to not be a bitch and drag the divorce process out forever. He complied thinking that throwing money at her would shut her up. Bwahahahahahah! Men, lol.
For those of you who have told your spouse about this site
Was it helpful?
I know the question about whether your spouse knows you are here comes up a lot in discussions and everyone's answers vary tremendously.
For those of you who do send your spouse to this site, has it helped?
My specific issue with DH is that every time he has a skid/bm related issue and acts like he has no idea where to begin, I share some of the things I've learned in here. Because of this site, I have also educated myself on our own state's custody and support guidelines.
Getting prepped for mediation
Hi everyone! I've been quiet around here for a while now because shit is starting to get real. DH is meeting with his lawyer tomorrow to discuss new terms for the PP. Some of you know the situation, some of you don't. That doesn't matter, any advice is welcome at this point.
Here is a list of things DH is going to ask for. Are there any other (general or specific) items that should be addressed? I have my opinions but I'm far from an expert at this.

Having a talk with DH's son -- how it all went down
Here's the back story http://www.steptalk.org/node/211683
Well, it was really simple. DH didn't say a whole lot and I said even less.
