On Friday I came home to find my blue rare parakeet dead. DH said that he had heard both of the parakeets chirping back and forth only about an hour before I got home. Well that was after he went and got SD and brought her over (they left once I got home). I buried him, cried, and cleaned the cage thinking possibly it was an avian disease of some sort. While cleaning the cage I just so happen to notice that it smelled like oranges and the newspaper at the bottom was stained orange. I checked our bathroom and noticed the 'Mean Green' (a strong cleaner) was missing...And guess where I find it? SD's room. She killed my parakeet. I am carefully watching the other parakeet for signs of distress or illness, but nothing so far. I haven't said anything to DH because it is likely he would brush it off as something else. Of course, he knows the bird is dead though.
I am now taking a more extreme step. The animals will be locked in a room on the days she is to have visitation. I will have THE ONLY key. She will only be at the house for about an hour without me there and then DH will take her elsewhere. I feel bad having to condemn the furries to a room on those days, but I have no other way to protect them. I've already bought a new door knob and deadbolt set (there will be a knob and deadbolt lock as SD has managed to open knob locks before).
DH started his new job today so I think I will wait until tomorrow to discuss the incident with him. He needs to know his daughter is becoming a murderous fiend, even if he doesn't believe it at first.
