OT~ If you hit a car
while you are backing off or something, and there are no witnesses, would you leave a note?
YOU BE THE JUDGE!!!
I am watching Judge Alex and they asked that question...
My answer: NO, I have never done that, but I don't think I would leave a note... Unless I'm like rich or something... THEN... absolutely...

Ha- My boss did this last year and panicked
She brought me down to the garage to look at the other car, it was the smallest little mark
I asked her "Did anyone see you?" She said, "no" I said fugeddaboutit!!!
This happened to me about 6 years ago
I was backing out and hit a car, it had a very small dent, hardly noticeable.
I waited until the person who owned the car showed up/ about half an hour and offered to call the police. He refused.
Even if there are no witnesses a lot of places now have camaras. You don't want to be charged with a hit and run if you can prevent it, so my advise is to leave a note.
One can only hope!
I would, and did
A couple of months ago on a very windy day, my door got away from me and banged the car next to mine in a grocery store parking lot. Left a long white mark on the other person's door (I drive a white SUV). I waited for a couple of minutes and then left a note under their wiper with my name and contact info, explaining what had happened and that I would be happy to pay for the repair if they wanted.
When I came back out of the store, they were loading stuff into their trunk. I explained to them what happened and got the note to show them that I had left my contact info if they wanted it. The lady was kind of impressed, and gestured toward her car (which in all honesty was pretty banged up already). She said, "Honey, look at my car. You think I'm worried about a white mark?"
She thought I was sweet. I just thought I was doing the smart thing by covering my own butt!
*~So sayeth Nymh~*
I have done that
I have left a note when I opened my door and scratched another vehicle. I preach to my kids and H about honesty, always have been anally honest; so yeah, I'd leave a note because I always act like my children are watching my every move and I want to be consistent with what I tell them. Of course I believe I am over the top but with small eyes upon me, I feel I have to.
For example, my SD's hate me because I told them they could not sneak cheaper food into the movie theater (of course BM and them use to do it all the time). They asked why and I said it was the theater's policy that it not happen and we follow rules, even when we disagree. I conveyed to them this rule may seem trivial but once you break a small rule it makes it that much easier to break a bigger rule. This was met with the rolling of the ole eyeballs, but I would never allow my kids to do it.
Anyways, I am so over the top about rule following and being consistent. Of course when all our children are gone, I'll probably become the biggest lawbreaker that ever roamed these parts.
Comically yours,
Evil Diva

I would.. as I wouldnt like
I would.. as I wouldnt like it if it were done to me. That is what car insurance is for.. in case I make a mistake when driving and damage someone else's property.
I didn't then felt guilty & went back...
Several years ago, I took a car load of old ladies to a symphony concert in another state. We parked in the garage on a slope so the older lady in the back banged my car door into the car next to me. Wouldn't you know, it WOULD be a new cadillac! After we discussed it for a few minutes, we decided to move to another parking spot and didn't leave a note. We walked several blocks to the event and listened to the concert. Durign the concert, I couldn't stand the sound of my guardian angel screaming at me any longer and walked all the way back to the cadillac and left a note with my name, number, and address with an "I'm sooo sorry" plea. Anyway, the cadillac owner called and the little old lady in my back seat paid for the $700 damages through her insurance company. I felt bad she had to pay for it but my conscience was clear. I'd do it again even if I had to foot the bill. My philosophy is, what goes around comes around. I'm always afraid I'll be eaten by spiders or something evil if I do wrong.
***We're too blessed to be stressed!***
I would now
because I beleive in Karma..and that everything comes full circle. When I was 17 I took my than BF's car for a joyride (no license) and sideswiped a parked car in NY city. My BF's car was a black Thunderbird with black tinted windows..and I sideswiped a white van...I told BF "I don't know how that happened"...since than I have had TWO hit and runs done to my vehicle..the last time my car was actually TOTALED..so I beleive it was my Karma for not telling the owner of that car back than.
"He grew up in my heart, not my belly"
Yes, I would
I would also take a picture of the damage with my phone to document it in the event that they tried to claim more.
I actually had this situation about a month ago..
I was at the grocery store with the skids and BF. We were putting the groceries in the trunk and I put the cart in the cart corral. Well, the corral was on top of a hill. The cart rolled back and hit a car. A HUGE chunk of the plastic came off (it was a really old car). BF choose that moment to preach to the kids about honesty so of course we waited around to see if the owner would come. Turns out the car belonged to a guy who worked at the restaurant that was located across from the grocery store. He was so surprised that we actually waited around for him. He thanked us and said not to worry about the damage. He thought I was sweetest person on earth when in reality I just didn't want to leave a note with my contact info and wanted to work something out on the spot
That is very good comment

Yes, I would leave a note
Yes, I would leave a note but not with my name on it. I have left notes for "whiskey dents" I have caused in the past. I leave only my Cell # as far as contact info.
I have had at least three occasions where my car(s) have been damaged and no note was left. Grrrrrr!!!!!
I also take a picture of the damage I cause or that is caused to my car by someone else with my cell phone to insure that I do not get nailed paying for damage I did not cause.
I recommend that everyone keep in mind that a false insurance claim is fraud and if someone claims dammage that you did not cause they are subject to loss of any coverage and can be prosecuted. This is good information to have if someone is trying to play you in this type of situation.
Best regards,
Success is rarely final. Failure is rarely fatal. It is character, courage and consistency of effort that count. Vince Lombardi (with some minor Rags modifications) To each according to their performance, screw Karl Marx. (Rags)
I had to leave a note... the
I had to leave a note... the guilt would have overcome me.
I did this just a couple months ago... bumped into another car in a parking lot and scratched the bumper. I left my name and number. I didn't hear anything for about a week and then... I get an email from someone that works for the same company as I. She asked if it was me that left the note. The 'accident' occured at a location that people from our company frequent and she took a chance and looked up my name in the company address book and low-and-behold, found a match! How embarrassing. Anyways, she was very nice and said she wouldn't call it in to my insurance company until she got an estimate in case it was under my deductible. Which I was thankful for. She sent me another email a couple weeks later and said she got her car detailed and you can't even see the scratch so don't worry about it. Yeah me!
Several years back... another similiar incident at a grocery store. I waited for the owner. When they saw the minor dent, they just said not to worry about it. Yippee!
Both times, my consience was cleared and things worked out. I've gotten a couple dents on my car from parking lots and no one ever bothered to leave me a note. The dents did not disappear with a detail unfortunately. Too bad everyone isn't as honest. Oh well. I still feel I did the right thing.
Next time I'm with Rags though... I'm not leaving my name...just number
