BM timeline
2008: BM files for bankruptcy without DH's knowledge (he obviously had to sign and was a part of it, but she made the decision to do so without his knowledge or input) and blames this entirely on him
2009: BM moves from our town to a town 17 miles north, to be closer to her FABULOUS job and because she needs a new start. She retains their marital residence and the land attached to it (which DH has signed off on in order to MOVE ON). She rents a small house in new town, rents out the marital residence, and hopes at some point (divorce doc specifies 5 years) to sell house and land to have $ for twins' college
2010-2015: BM makes our lives a living hell and works really hard to destroy any possibility of a relationship between her sons and their stepmother
2013-2015: BM stops paying her mortgage and taxes on marital residence. Yet, she still manages to get herself and her sons home to UK at least three times each year. She also seems to have money to retain lawyers for frivolous countersuits and each twin has at least three pairs of expensive sneakers at all times (she has been busy passing her tastes and compulsive shopping habits along to SSs. I used to be thankful that they were at least not girls but they may as well bloody be).
2014-2015: not sure when exactly- renters of marital residence trash the place and she doesn't renew their lease. She now has no money coming in. Maybe she should have kept current on her mortgage while they were still paying rent?! Don't worry, Daddy comes from UK to fix the place up for hopeful sale.
2016: Marital residence in foreclosure. BM has gutted the place and is now offering DH furniture that he acquired before they married, which she had previously told him that she had sold.
Yesterday: BM laid off from her FABULOUS job. Which, I've mentioned before on here, she was hired for with false information on her resume. She never attended college. Not that that SHOULD make a difference but it definitely seems to in this country and job market.
It will be interesting to see what she does next. Ironically, she had an interview in a town just south of the marital residence recently and was not offered the job.
I think that I would have some serious grief to work through if this was me.

Thanks Sally! Luckily, back
Thanks Sally! Luckily, back before she went batshit crazy (when they were divorcing and deciding custody and creating the doc), they decided absolutely down-the-line 50/50 so neither pays CS. She makes (made) 3X what DH does. Which makes her continued lack of responsibility even more frustrating. She has 3 people to pay for (we have 7) and she can't stop shopping or traveling in order to pay her bills?!)
I would not put it past her to try to go back to court and file a change of circumstance. She has never been a SAHM and maybe that's the next "role" she wants to play, lol. Good luck to her if she thinks she'll be finding any money here!
I dont know how it works in
I dont know how it works in the UK but college does matter here in the US with regards to employment. Its used as a way to filter potential employees. Most times, it doesnt even matter what your major is. You lie on your resume and you're dead to other potential employers! Lol!
And that would be interesting to know how the bankruptcy would affect you guys. But I imagine it would still show as a negative on his credit rating because a foreclosure is a foreclosure. I would maybe file an injunction with the court to allow me to buy her out of the home so I can prepare it for sell. File it on the grounds that the forclosure would cause an undue hardship to me because of her decisions.
Tyrant, we are in US but she
Tyrant, we are in US but she (and DH) are from UK originally. I am shocked that her previous employment didn't check where she *claimed* she had gone to school- maybe because in another country? And I know that it sadly does filter candidates- part of the big money machine here. We are headed for a change- the way things are with colleges are totally unsustainable and institutions of higher learning are churning out people I wouldn't hire for any job!
The bankruptcy is now over. The foreclosure certainly will affect DH because his name is on the mortgage- because they declared bankruptcy he couldn't get his name off because she never could have refinanced. So I agree- he needs to file something with the court (or maybe credit agencies? Anyone know?) that shows the divorce doc and gets his name freed from the foreclosure because it was not his property or responsibility. I want him to begin the process of building his credit back up. I hope he'll stand up for himself here.
I just can't even imagine what goes on in her head. Not paying something you owe?!
He can't get his name off the
He can't get his name off the mortgage unless it is refinanced. Going through a similar situation and credit agencies do not care about arrangements. His name is on the loan, that's the bottom line. Some folks here have told me that the impact on credit isn't too terrible.
Stupid Chef signed a quit
Stupid Chef signed a quit claim deed so Girhippo sold the house, kept all the proceeds and all of Chef's belongings, started a biz that she said would "make her a millionaire." Biz failed and she filed bankruptcy within the 11 mos the biz was opened.
Oh okay, I thought you guys
Oh okay, I thought you guys were all in UK.
But I work as a revenue office with the IRS and I can tell you that credit agencies do not care about special situations and agreements between borrowing parties. If his name is on it and she fumbled the balled, they both owe it regardless of what the decree says. Thats why I would ask the court to let me refinance without her. In fact, the house maybe the only thing she has that is driving her onto bankruptcy so it would be a plus for her to be allowed bankruptcy.
