Dear Valued Users,
It's with a heavy heart that we announce the permanent closure of StepTalk.org on August 31st, 2025.
This decision wasn't an easy one. For over twenty years, StepTalk has been a source of support for stepparents around the world! However, over the years, the costs associated with maintaining and upgrading the site to remain secure, meet current standards and maintain availability have become unsustainable.
We are incredibly grateful for your support, contributions and the community you've helped us build. Your engagement has made StepTalk.org a special place and we cherish the memories and connections made here.
We would especially like to thank Aniki for volunteering to be a moderator and for caring so much.
Thank you for being a part of our journey and we wish you all the best.
Sincerely,
Dawn and The StepTalk Team

I never dress up so I don't
I never dress up so I don't own anything to wear for anything nice. I call my best girlfriends and they always have something for me to borrow. Do you have any friends who wear the same size as you?

ROFL
Sorry, I'm 5'11" and a size 16. My nearest sized friend is a size 10P and if I go UP sizes, the nearest is a 22.
Oh Bummer. Wish I was 5'11.

Do you have a Ross Dress For
Do you have a Ross Dress For Less, TJ Maxx, or Marshall's close to you? If so, they usually carry formal and semi formal dresses this time of year. I prefer Ross, myself. I've picked up some great dresses for really great prices there. They would have stuff for your DH, too. I've picked up some great dresses on sale/clearance at Kohl's before, too. Don't stress about it. Have fun with it!
I love my thrifts! I find
I love my thrifts! I find name brand clothing with the store tags still on them.
I try everything on and
I try everything on and scrutinize it very carefully. Sometimes the clothing are seconds. You'll find seams not straight or hems ripped out. I am very careful especially when I see a whole rack with tags on them.
Yep! I bought a pair of J.
Yep! I bought a pair of J. Crew dress pants there a couple of weeks ago. Tags still on them! I love them! Unfortunately, I need to lose about 3-4 lbs before I can wear them. I refuse to take them back, though. Lol
Already called up a friend
Already called up a friend and we're going to the local thrifts armed with $20.
Ross works for me with this
Ross works for me with this kind of stuff. Just find a basic black dress and you can use it for other functions. Dress it up with some jewelry and heels and you will be great....
Get him a tie there as well...Otherwise, I like Pennys for ties for all my guys.
Renttherunway.com. They have
Renttherunway.com. They have multiple price ranges and it allows you to wear designer duds without the price tag.
Unfortunately for me, I'm
Unfortunately for me, I'm veeeeeeeeeeeery large busted (38I) so wearing an empire waist for me ends up having a 6 pack in the wrong area (Boob below the waist line and pushed up over my cup. Not pleasant looking or feeling.)
Thanks for the advice on the skirt and sweater. I think I might have a skirt around with a forgiving waist.
My vote is TJ Maxx, or
My vote is TJ Maxx, or Steinmart if you have them in your area. Buy a black skirt at Target or somewhere cheap, then look for a nice black top for it at a little more expensie store.
