OT - Eff Off/Forn Friday

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Happy Friday, STalkers! This has been a crazy-busy week. If fact, it's been crazy-busy for almost a month. I could use a vacation!

Eff off to:

  • King Pita. Ever since he became the boss, he's been struggling. NO idea how to prioritize, has to be told things over and over (guess he forgets), sends out the same stuff over and over (guess he forgets), and is constantly sticking his nose into jobs people have been doing for years. They know what they're doing. KP is clueless and continually make ludicrous suggestions that will never fly.
  • BioHo. SS19 is feeling MUCH better this morning, but is not yet 100%. He just stretched out on the couch to take a nap. 'Ho called once to tell DH that SS can come home when he's been fever free for 48 hours.
  • Me. Between 10-14 hour days to complete dual deadlines and working on memory bears in my "off" hours, I haven't followed up with SD25's wedding happenings. My apologies. Shooting for next week!

Forn Friday

Forn is 'food' and 'p0rn' combined.

It's a cold one today and I'm in the mood for soup! Picked up a nice slab of salmon yesterday and plan to make some Lohikeitto (salmon soup) for dinner. No time to make rieska, so I'll throw together some beer bread. My mouth is watering at the the thought. What's on your menu tonight?

Wishing you a safe, enjoyable, and stress-free weekend! *give_rose*

I have no Eff Off's.  Even with the back to back dumping of snow *pleasantry*

Dinner tonight is the sauerbraten (german pot roast) that I put into marinade 2 days ago.  YUMMMM

Aniki-Moderator's picture

I've always wanted to try my hand at sauerbraten! Do you make yours with gingersnaps?

But Ivins only

It sounds delicious.  Can you make it a bread maker?

I just made steak soft tacos at work with the left over steak from last night.  It was so good!

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Not sure a bread maker would work. This goes together quickly.

Beer Bread

  • 3 cups flour, sifted
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1-12 oz beer, room temp*
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  1. Preheat oven to 375°.
  2. Mix dry ingredients  together.
  3. Mix in beer.
  4. Pour into greased loaf pan (make sure bottom is well-greased!). Smooth out any big peaks.
  5. Pour butter over the top.
  6. Bake for 1 hour.
  7. Remove from pan and cool for 15+ minutes before slicing.

NOTES:

  • Sifting the flour is crucial! You don't want a brick.
  • If you prefer a softer crust, mix the melted butter into the batter.
  • Best beers to use for flavor: lager, porter, stout, brown ale.

Eff off to my boss who generally doesn't bother me too much but this week he has been trying to be helpful by doing things that I should be doing.  He keeps starting stuff badly and then passing it my way as if he's doing me a favour.  Nope.  All the stuff goes in the virtual garbage can.  Must think of a semi polite way to tell him to stop at my review next week.

Forn - tonight we are having bang bang cauliflower in wraps with salad, hot sauce, mango cutney and home made riata.  I'm not making the bang bang cauliflower from scratch as I've been working non stop since the return from new year.  Tomorrow I plan on making a big vat of squash soup. yum.

I love mango chutney! It's delicious with baked brie.

My husband got me a HUGE HUGE jar of mango chutney this summer. I mean, I like it but once I open it I'm sure I'm not going to finish it.  I'm planning on using it with some chicken or pork dish this weekend for the first time. He'll be pleased it's finally open (he's not a huge fan of it).

I think he was so happy he found it and he knows I like it. Sizing is not exactly his forte, but the thought is appreciated.

I have some jars in the pantry and need to figure out how to use them.

We have it all the time as a condiment with curry.  If you want to be a bit fancy, get poppadoms and then serve with mango chutney, spicy lime chutney and riata for a curry house experience.

Eff off to the darkest, rainiest, miserable-est January I can remember in a while. I'm done with it. There might be sun on Sunday for the first time in a LONG time and I'm planning on a long, long walk.

Eff off to our HR system. I'm having to process a bunch of raises (yay!) but it's a PITA. Trying to get most of them entered today.

Dinner:  I'm on site at work today and I'm getting some sushi at a wonderful place across the street. Told DH that I'm going to order a LOT and then some chicken teriyaki too.  So I'll take the teriyaki and extra sushi home for us for dinner. I'll steam up some veg to go along with it when I get home.  This is a treat since we have limited restaurant food options near us.

.....Aaaaaaand he just texted me that YSD is coming back to ours tonight. Fantastic. I bought just enough food for he and I only (one thing which she would eat). I just texted him that there's NOT enough food for all of us, that it's for He and I, and he'll have to figure out what to do for YSD. He's not to give her the food I bought for us. Which I'm certain he'll try to do anyway..."Hey, YSD, why don't you take my "x" food...I'll get something else." Um NO. I didn't pay $$ for some delicous food for ADULTS only to have it go to her. NOPE.

Ugh..these weather swings are killer for the doggo with epilepsy.  45 one day...16 the next day.  It pretty much ensures that doggo will have a seizuer.   Yesterdays seizure event included doggo's mind fritzing while he was on the stairs...he fell straight backwards down 4 stairs.  I thought he would hurt himself..nope..just gave me a heart attack.  Dear Weather Gods..can we stick to one season please....doggo and I can cannot take spring to winter back to spring....then to winter again.

Food porn....

Will be making some avocado toast tomorrow for breakfast.

Dinner tonight will be whatever take I decide I want.  Halo doesn't cook on Fridays.

to do a certain aspect of the job they are getting hired to do, but alluding to the hiring boss that they do know how to do x, y, and z. We have had a new employee since August and I have had to help drafting construction documents for her projects and taking on more projects because she told my boss she knew how to draft, but really doesn't. Finally 5 months later she was supposed to be doing 80% of the drafting on her project and me working on the more complicated areas/helping with one of the floors, but she has hardly gotten anything done on it, some of the pages are wrong, and now she has COVID, so I finished up my portion and am now doing hers too because the client is waiting on these drawings.

BLAH

NotYourAverageStepMama's picture

It is the principal and then 4 designers under her which is including the new girl. I love my boss she is a wonderful person, but she is definitely not always the best at hiring people. She made a comment to me yesterday when reviewing where the drawing set was at and I told her that there were other areas that need to be fixed she said the girl reminds her a bit of our old co-worker who she fired December 2020, which that is NOT a good sign.

Also sucks because drafting is literally my LEAST favorite part of my job and to take on more of it where someone else is lacking doesn't make me happy!

YSDiabla is still in town for a couple more days and there is a 100% chance she will hit DH up to take her out which is fine because I am looking forward to doing my own thing. BD went to visit a friend and scout out a potential university. It should be a stress free weekend for me but DH will deal with diabla. If she comes to visit we're getting take out and he can deal with all the Devil's details.

Eff off to HR!  My end date is January 21st but they deactivated me randomly two days ago.  I could access literally nothing, not even my laptop.  They fixed it on their end but then...

Eff off to IT!  After HR fixed their screw-up I still couldn't log into Windows so my laptop was a giant brick.  The initial IT help desk couldn't figure it out so they  'escalated' on a high priority to the Level 2 desk.  That only took 2 days to resolve - finally fixed this morning.

I can't wait to be done with work!  9 more working days....

That beer bread sounds soooooo good.  We are cutting back on bread and pasta to lose weight (and yes - its working!).

Tonight we are busting out the fondue pot and I'm making a Chedder-ale fondue.  We have various random veggies, and SO is going to grill up some brats for fondue dippers.  Damn some beer bread would be a GREAT dipper but alas...not in our plan right now Sad

TGIF everyone!

Ermagawd, what hooey! 9 more working days.... That's your mantra!

Since covid, I cannot eat much bread or pasta. It will take me almost a week to eat 2 slices of beer bread!
