Welcome to Hump Day, STalkers! It's certainly been a busy week. Temp here is upper 50s and rainy and I'm craving a cup of Corsican Pear Spice rooibos tea. *biggrin*

A YUGE thanks to all who have received and reported the troll PMs. Keep it up!

As before, I know some of you are going through difficult times. Do NOT take these despicable word vomits personally. This person is obviously ill.

I'm in Electric.  THis woman called the power outage line three times for a waste water issue.  The waste water dispatcher is a woman.  She kept telling me she refused to speak to a woman about a waste water issue. She didn't believe a woman could possibly be capable or knowledgable.  My male coworker called her back once and said, "Ma'am.  Yes I am a man but I'm in the electric department.  The woman in the waste water department has been there over 20 years.  She knows what she's talking about."  Her third call, he said, "your turn."

So I called her back.  She demanded to speak to an engineer.  So I gave her to the engineer in water/waste water.  And that person is a woman!!!!!!!!!!  I sent her that woman's sexist demeaning voice mails.  We had a big laugh today.  I am pleased to announce the woman engineer helped her just fine

I just called one of my employees a rock star, in front of her boss. One of the rock star's direct reports is VERY difficult, and we've got some corrective action going. My rock star employee is gentle but tough and I am lucky to be able to help mentor her through the tough spots.

Acknowledging good work, especially difficult work, is SO important. Especially for the young women coming behind me.

....and that's why I changed departments. The compliments were few and far between and "do more" was the common theme.

As a supervisor myself, I was very very very conscious of giving my subordinates compliments, positive feedback and support at all times. Because then they also step up AND can take correction better if they feel good overall.

Feedback is crucial, Cover. A previous employer had a manager who only gave feedback when firing someone. "George" worked there for almost a year and was trained by a senior tech. That tech trained George to do things the wrong way because they were faster. When George explained that to the manager? "You should've known it was wrong." George was fired and the senior tech was not. WTH??

I just reported polarbear2 to you- got a vile message.  It's tough you know- I try my best to be supportive here and in general.  My son w/the mental health issues was having a really bad day- so I had to put up with his verbal vomit and emotional abuse for the last couple hours.  At least he left the house for a while.  So to get this right now is just -well- don't know what to say.  I get broken down enough to deal with this.

I'm so sorry you got that garbage, bananaseedo. You're one I was thinking of when I typed this. Remember that this troll is a headcase who doesn't know you personally. If it helps, you could temporarily change messages to just your friends. {{{hugs}}}
