Does this bother you?
I am so tired of going shopping and buying snacks only to have them all opened on Thurs when the step kids are here. I went shopping yesterday and did not open anything. When I get home and look in the pantry this is what they opened
A bag of oatmeal cookies and didn't even eat one
A box of club cracker
2 boxes of fruit roll ups
1 box of vanilla wafers
1 Box of gushers
There are only three of them and my daughter is here 80% of the time and I never have a problem with this.
I sit them down and tell them if they can not control themself then I will not buy snacks and if I do I am going to hide them. Of course everyone (including mine) said they only had 2 or 3 roll ups. There were 18 GONE, BS> Anyway just a rant!

Hi...actually in my home is you take it you eat it...the only thing I dont like is waste..so No this does not bother me....like I tell everyone if you are hungry eat but dont waste...

Yes, this bugs me. I
Yes, this bugs me. I understand where you are coming from. Mine is a budget issue. If I buy groceries once a week, on my way home from work on Friday night, you can't pig out over the weekend, and then come Monday night b$%^& that there is no food left! I buy frozen pizzas for the skids and their friends to have for the weekend, but don't open everything!
The thing that really bugs me? I'll buy a package of steaks for the big Sunday night dinner. At some point after I go to sleep, one of the skids will rip into it and fry up a steak on the stove top! So then there aren't enough for Sunday, the one night I insist we all sit together. Last time that happened, that kiddo ate baloney while the rest of us had steak.
Or DH buys a case of soda, and the house rule is "one a day." Like he did YESTERDAY. I go to have one after work tonight- my one vice- and there isn't a dang one left!
If I buy it for me or Gibby 9 to have for our sack lunches during the school week, I either keep it in the trunk or the fridge in the teacher's lounge at school. It's safer there than in my own home!

OMG this is happens in our house, too!!!! Go to cook dinner and find out that someone already ate what you were going to prepare. Once I had a cake mix to bake a birthday cake for a friend on the weekend. Saturday morning I open up the pantry and it's gone! One of them actually baked and frosted a cake for a snack???
I don't understand why kids
I don't understand why kids have to do this, they open everything then don't want to eat it later because it's stale. I feel your frustration I've been there.
See I dont have teenagers so
See I dont have teenagers so I guess I dont feel your frustration..I guess I will in a few years....something else to look forward to...

I do think it is a teenager
I do think it is a teenager thing... At least my skid boys don't waste it. They just devour it!
See that's my thing dont
See that's my thing dont waste...and to be honest I dont have junk in the house..mostly fresh fruits, veggies..and maybe some chips and chocolate...
SD15 stress eats. She's home
SD15 stress eats. She's home watching her little brother after school; I shudder to think of what their grocery bill must be. All 3 adults (I count SD15) weigh over 180, and the 7 yr old is chubby too.
I don't keep unhealthy snacks in the house; if I did, I'd eat them all. So it's cheese sticks and crackers and raw fruits and vegetables around here.
They think your house is
They think your house is Disneyland. In our house, where 7 kids roam, anything is fair game. It's divided up equally and the left overs are fair game. With 7, you can see why "dibs" or "this is mine" doesn't work.
Anything snacks in my house that are eaten, I just buy more. Its such a little thing compared to attitude...defiance, backtalk.
As long as they clean up their mess and share, I don't care. If you want to have food only for your kid, then hide it from the masses.
I have the same issue with
I have the same issue with both SS11 and SD9, they basically eat me out of house and home when they arrive, so long as I have the snacks and lunch foods that they like... they are quite fussy eaters. I can't be bothered with fussiness so I don't enable it. I purposely don't buy the things that I know they love. I like it when they open the pantry and then close it again because there are no snacks or lunch foods that they want. If they want it, their Dad can make a special trip to the grocery store.
Luckilly the kids don't know about my secret stash of snacks at the bottom of the pantry... they are too lazy to move things to find them
My kids are that way with
My kids are that way with sodas. I have never allowed my kids to have sodas, koolaid or other sugary drinks on any sort of basis. I limit their juice as well. So everyone once in a while I will get them a 12 pk (there's 3 of them)as a treat. It doesnt last 24 hours. They are immediately using their math skills to find out how many each will get-they aer 13,11, and 8. I swear it's like crack to them-especially my 11 year old son. I have stopped worrying about the amount of time it takes to drink. I only buy them when I feel like it (maybe once every couple of months or if we have sort of occassion, company) and when its gone its gone I dont buy more. I would just buy a snack or two for when your skids are here. If they choose to devour it in the first hour, oh well. You can always ahve a back health snack of fruit or veggies.
Holy crap! That is so wrong!
Holy crap! That is so wrong! Funny as shit but SO wrong!
Call me a control freak... BS
Call me a control freak... BS and SS are not allowed to eat ANYTHING without asking first. I don't deny them food. If they are hungry, they get fed. But I only offer a balance of healthy vs. junk food. If they just had a bag of chips? They get fruit or veggie next. If they don't want what I offer, they choose to go hungry. Their choice.
Soda's are very rare... I buy Capri Suns for lunches and on weekends they can have 1 a day. Otherwise... they get water. If they haven't had much fruit, they can have apple or orange juice and milk with meals.
This is how it was my my
This is how it was my my sons, who are know grown and out on their own. They always asked before eating anything! They didn't just raid the pantry. They rarely eat junk food or candy. Don't care for soda, either. And those eating habits have stuck with them as adults.
Skids, on the other hand, have probably never even tasted water! I bought stuff to make s'mores for a camping trip, then go to pack only to find that they've already eaten it. We have to had drinks and snacks for lunches, because they will devour it all in an afternoon and wonder why they didn't get one in their lunch. They never finish anything before opening a new one. We've got a close to a dozen open boxes of cereal in the pantry.
When we had all three kids at home, I was seriously considering putting a lock on the pantry door. A new refrigerator with a passcode lock would be cool, too. Now that two of them have bailed, it's a little more manageable
love it.............. i do
love it.............. i do that as well.............. starting now.. lately.. haha loving it.. they get pissed off .. toooooo badd get fat or be healthy. my house is all healthy foods.. few items are junk...
Drinks are the problem in my
Drinks are the problem in my house. When I go grocery shopping I buy 2 gallons of milk, juice (2 or 3 large containers) usually kool-aid (several packets), and 4 or 5 two liters of pop. Always the pop is gone in 24-48 hours...usually 24 and the juice is gone in 2 maybe 3 days if I'm lucky and I'm usually not. Two or three days and I have to start screaming..."Milk is for cereal and cooking ONLY!" once I realize that a gallon and a half is already gone. Ugh. It infuriates me because all I ever get to drink is water. Dont get me wrong I love water but pop, juice, milk...it all adds up. It gets expensive and we are very much on a budget and I shouldn't have to drink water all week because my family decides to down everything else within 2 days!
I constantly find new ways to
I constantly find new ways to hide or stretch food to make it last (hehehe). Cheese gets hidden under the salad stuff, cookies in pots that we seldom use etc etc. Fh is the biggest offender. SS14 loves tomato sauce and puts litres of it on everything, so I have lately been buying the cheapest brand (which usually tastes sh*t...um tough!). Left overs get frozen immediately to help with leaner days. Bread gets frozen and so does milk - 1 loaf taken out a day (we are 4 altogether) & 1 x 2L every 2-3 days. When the milk goes down too fast (FH & SS14 have a terrible habit of drinking from the bottle, I dilute it with water, which they hate..but tough! don't waste the milk and I won't dilute it.. Only FH complains about the diluted milk, the kids are used to it and I can't stand full cream milk.
What can I say...hard times demand hard tactics
OMG, this would drive me
OMG, this would drive me insane! WTH is going on with parents these days? Kids eat/drink whatever THEY want, whenever THEY want.... THEY come in to their parents homes and use the computer, cell phones, iPods, etc. w/o asking first. THEY go through personal belongings w/o permission, borrow (TAKE) whatever THEY want w/o regard to anyone but, THEMSELVES. It is disgusting! It is unacceptable. Where are the boundaries? It's as if the parents work FOR the kids. Ridiculous! We are faced with generations of entitled little Narcissistic monsters who are taught from day one that only THEY count, only THEIR feelings matter. Good grief! I would never in a million years, EVER just walk in to my mothers home and do whatever I want. Hell, I knock first, even to this day. I do not just go in to her refrigerator or cabinets and eat what I want. I do not just jump on her computer and use it. I do not just grab her cell phone and begin using it. I do not go in to her bedroom, her closets, her dresser drawer. I just don't. I never have. Even as a child, we were taught boundaries. We knew our place and we were happy to know where we stood. It's called parenting. I don't see a whole hell of a lot of that happeneing these days... parenting.
Sorry for the rant. Just makes me sick.
And you know what else????
And you know what else???? These kids wouldn't be leading such sedentary obese lives if parents weren't constantly pacifying the little monsters with junk food! My mother put out a fresh bowl of fruit everyday and we knew to eat that as snacks!
Know how you feel, distorted
Know how you feel, distorted reality, I was brought up like that also. That is why when I came into this situation and experienced the gross lack of parenting, the conflict started. And now it's your (my) 'perfect kids' versus my (his) 'F*up kids' Well sorry buster if I actually brought my kids up the way I was brought up and now have well-adjusted, decent kids and you failed with yours! And now it's too late to change a SS14 & SD20...the damage is done!
