OT...kinda. I think I might be pregnant....(and I'm freaking out!)

lastchance's picture

So I'm on birth control (the pill). I take it everyday at the same exact damn time. I set a reminder on my phone so that I take it every day. At the beginning of this past pill pack I was sick. I had diarehea (sorry TMI), for almost a week and a half straight, with a day or so of relief from those symptoms, but only after taking pepto bismal. Now flashforward to this past week and.......I'm late. Eight days late to be exact. My "friend" usually starts like clockwork and I thought it was starting last week, but it was just a false alarm. I've been getting cramps every day in my lower abdomen. They usually last around 10-15 minutes before it goes away on its own. Sometimes they're pretty painful. This is unusual. IF they were period cramps, for me they usually stay until I take some ibuprofen or something. My breasts are also tender, but nothing unusual for having a period, except ya know...no period.

I don't know what to do. Like I said, I'm kind freaking out at the moment. I'm not sure if it's too early for me to take a pregnancy test or what test would be the most accurate to take. I don't know what I'll do IF I'm pregnant. Ugh...I'm scared!!!

Well looks like we are in the same boat, im also on the pill and its almost a week late been really thirsty at night? I have, sometimes birth control can fail, even the pill, have you told your SO about your concerns? I wish you luck

I'm usually really thirsty at night, but I'm pretty sure that it's because I'm so busy during the day that I forget to drink, so by the time I have a second to just 'sit' I end up SUPER thirsty.

DH knows I'm late. He's not freaking out like I am. He says "I'll worry about it when we know you are pregnant"...it's like...oh gee thanks jerkface. I'm freaking out NOW lol.

Good luck to you too, SM-20.

I don't know. I think *if* I'm pregnant, I might be fine with it, although I keep going back and forth. One moment I think, "meh, having a kid now isn't the best timing, but it'll be ok" and the very next moment I think "oh shit! I AM NOT READY TO BE A PARENT...aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah" lol

I've decided I'm going to go test on my lunch break today.

It's not too early to take a test. The first response ones are good even before you miss a period. I found out I was pregnant 2 days before my period was due. I sort of knew anyway as I just didn't feel right. At 8 days late probably even the cheap tests would work. I'd get to the drug store asap!

Awesome. Thank you. I always hear that you should test in the morning for more accuracy and blah blah blah. Any one have any idea if it HAS to be in the morning?

I would think the same things with those symptoms. I'd suggest getting a home pregnancy test or two - you can take them, usually, after you miss a period. If it's positive, get to a doctor and start talking to your man.

Hope this all works out for you, lady. Smile

yeah If I was you I would get a pregnancy test asap! i thought I was pregnant too, still no period and its like 2 weeks late, but Ive taken two tests and they both have said negative AND I was on birth control too! So i dont know what to think!

You can test anytime during the day...you might get a false negative but any amount of the pregnancy hormone will be enough to turn the line pink. I think with you being eight days late that you can test now. I was technically due the day I tested and I tested at like 7pm that night. I was pregnant and the test said so. I took another one a day or so later in the morning and it just made the line darker.

Jackie-that is crazy. that reminds me of this girl I went to High School with. She was anorexic, so hadn't been having her period for a while anyways. She ended up getting shipped off to an eating disorder rehab place. She started gaining all kinds of weight and they thought it was just because she was receiving treatment. Well, about a month or two after she came home she started having really horrible stomach pains. She went to the hospital and they told her not only was she pregnant she was in labor! I think the kid was 4 or 6 weeks early. How would you like that kind of surprise. She didn't look pregnant at all!

I think it's pretty too early for you to conclude anything. Often the signs of pregnancy and signs before you have your period are the same. Don't freak out until you have to. All you can do for now is to be calm and wait for an ample time before you take any test.

Hi Miriam...thanks for the comment. It has been quite a while though since this post and I am now 10 weeks pregnant!! Smile

Just wanted to chime in...I got pregnant on the pill with my first baby. And I was meticulous about taking it. I was married at the time. And we wanted kids. But I was trying to get through my senior year in college first. I came down with strep throat and was on an antibiotic. And that's all it took.

I spent my senior year in college throwing up between classes.

yeah...I was sick (diarehha) for about two weeks straight. I think that had something to do with it, cuz I took that damn pill religiously!

We have to be extra careful of taking pills. It might have some adverse effect. I guess you should call your physician right away at the first sign of discomfort to avoid unnecessary problems.
