chores part 2
When ss15 was not in any sports or after school programs, it was the same uphill battle to get him to do one or two of the jobs around the house. now that he is in track he uses that excuse that he is so tired, and bw backs him on this I think that's what drives me the craziest, so I just leave the dishes until they eventually get loaded our unloaded. sometimes I'm at my wits end.

Same here. BOTH skids are so damn lazy. It is pathetic. They live here full time now though, and I consider this a hill to die on so I force the issue. DH refuses to enforce chores. So I have made Sunday mornings cleaning time. Everyone has to get up and help clean SOMETHING. I told DH I am done cleaning the whole house alone. Everyone lives here and helps make the mess. I am not a maid. So they get up and take 300 hours to eat breakfast (or lunch) in their attempt to avoid cleaning. Or DH lets them half ass whatever they are doing, but at least it is a little bit of time they are not on their asses.
The other thing we are going to be fighting about though is dinner dishes. For five years now - DH has been cooking (because I am not a short order cook and won't do it) and I have been doing the dishes. Skids may or may not put their plates in the dishwasher and RUN to their rooms. I have always been stuck with the pots and pans. About a month ago, I said that wasn't fair - that a 14 and 12 year old were perfectly capable of washing dishes and that they needed to help too. Well how many times has that happened? SD12 helped me once. SS14 never.
So I told DH over the weekend that I am on Dishes strike. He tried to tell me that he ALWAYS washes the dishes. I laughed and said you can tell yourself whatever you want. When you cook I wash the dishes. When I cook (rare I know) I wash the dishes. I am done. My turn is over - it has been five years. He said that they would just go out to eat. I said that was fine by me and that is what DH and the two skids did last night. I stayed home and enjoyed not doing dishes and not having to hear the complaining and hearing SS chew with this mouth open. Oh and also I didn't see half their food go down the garbage disposal!

Just read an article in the Sunday paper about how experts say that children SHOULD have chores, that bottom line, it teaches them that they are part of the family and that they are not entitled to everything simply because they exist.
I left the article conspicuously displayed for my DH to see since SD15 does NOTHING... hell last year DH even offered to PAY her to weed wack, or mow or SOMETHING and she still couldn't be bothered... but why should she when she gets everything she wants either from DH or GBM. Hell my BS4 was actually helping me stack wood the other day and helping me fix horse pasture fence last night... WITHOUT being asked.
