Sick of biting my tongue
SS9 had a ridiculous freak out at school yesterday. He was in and out of the nurses office starting at 11:30 gagging and crying. They finally gave up and called me to come get him at 2:30. This is a repeat behavior for him to the point that his teachers and the nurse no longer believe he is actually ill, that’s why they didn’t call right away. Yesterday was the sixth time this school year I’ve had to go get him on a Monday for the same hysterical crying and vomiting/gagging routine.

A downside to having bios and steps at the same school
My SS9 and DD9 are in the same grade at the same school and have the same two teachers. Normally we’ve never had any issues bc I handle everything. I’ve never had any problems communicating with SS9’s previous teachers, signing his papers, writing notes, etc. This year though he has a young, first year teacher (not sure if that’s a factor or not) who is hesitant to have much interaction with me bc I am not listed in the system as a family member for SS9. It annoys the crap out of my husband to have to handle things I normally take care of bc honestly he’s just been spoiled by me doing a
Anyone with a kid that can’t/won’t ride anything?
My SS8stb9 is getting left behind in the neighborhood. Getting him to go outside and play is like pulling teeth as it is but all he can really do is walk and swing a play sword around. The neighbor kids and my two daughters have long surpassed him in learning to ride scooters and bikes. So what happens is he goes outside to play with all the kids that are out but then the kids decide to hop on their bikes and go down the street or around the corner and SS comes in because he got deserted.

Just got done with days of BM taking shelter in my house
Hurricane Harvey has wreaked havoc in my area. We were so lucky to get no flooding in my neighborhood but BM has significant damage to her house. Her only family in this area lost everything. What's funny is that BM used to live in our subdivision in her mom's old house and I used to hope she would move out and then she did and now I wish she hadn't bc we will be keeping the kids indefinitely and DH will need to help her with her home since the kids live there too. Anyway, we already had the kids over here for Harvey and BM eventually had to leave her house Sunday.
Dining out
At what age do you think parents should be teaching their children how to read menus, understand prices, make choices, and interact with wait staff or counter employees? Basically I've been working with my kids on this (they are 8, 8, and 6). My two are learning a lot but SS8 is struggling so much I am starting to feel like he has social anxiety disorder. He will not speak to employees at all, when I gently prompt him he looks like he's in distress, fights back tears, and slowly shrugs his shoulders until I give up and speak for him. This is every single time, he's made no progress.

Make it stop
DH and I had our twins last month. He went back to work already, my kids went for an extended vacation with their grandma, and so it's just me, the babies, and SS8 at home all day. SS8 is clearly having issues. For one he's bored out of his mind (which I do feel sorry for him bc the babies take up so much of time) but I also think he's struggling with the changes to our family. Unfortunately it's presenting itself as him talking in the most annoying baby voice you could ever imagine.

Stress galore
This whole week was supposed to be kid free for me, kids are on spring break and were supposed to spend the whole week with my mom who lives around 2.5 hours away. My SS15 got invited to spend the first half of spring break out of town with his friend and the friends family. Everything was good. Well the kids barely left with my mom on Friday and the very next day she mentioned on the phone that DD8 seemed under the weather.

MIL is mad that SS8 is spending Spring Break with my mom
I feel like I'm in an awkward position. I already arranged for my two and SS8 to spend the week of Spring Break with my mom who lives in the country about 2.5 hours away. BM isn't taking any extra time off that week to entertain SS so she didn't care and DH thinks he might be on a mandatory shut down at work so he'll be working 7 12s. I'm supposed to drive the kids up to my mom on the 11th and she's going to bring them back on the 18th. The 18th is coincidentally my baby shower which my sister is handling but it's going to be at my MIL's house.
Teens and their friends
When I was a teenager and went to friends' houses I always remember making polite conversation with their parents. When I had friends over they did the same. SS15 brings friends home and they act like DH and I are invisible. Not a word or glance our way they just hightail it to SS's room as quick as possible. Is that just how teens are these days? SS15 wants two friends to stay the night tonight and I want to say no but for no other reason than I think they're rude and mannerless.

Hypothetical question
Let's say that you're a teacher in a nice school district and every year at Christmas you get a few hundred dollars worth of gift cards from parents. Would you happily share them with your spouse? I have a friend who complains every year that her DH is stingy with all the gift cards he gets at school. They have a joint account that both their paychecks go into but she is the higher earner.
