Every now and then, a miracle
Not from SS10 but from DH.
SS is doing remote learning right now and DH and I are (mostly) remote as well so a lot of together time. SS is also in a gifted and talented program that pulls the kids out of class Wednesday mornings. Lots of creative, imaginative projects. He's actually not a terribly imaginative kid but he is smart. Anyway, for a couple of months they've been working on creating and building their own model food trucks. Since SS goes back and forth every other week, he has to take his stuff between houses.
Today he realized he didn't have his food truck parts to work on it. They're showing the finished project next week. But they were supposed to work on it today.
SS comes downstairs to tell DH he didn't have it. DH and I asked if there was anything he could do without the other parts -- like make up new decorations -- and then finish it at his mom's on Sunday afternoon or during school breaks next week. SS didn't like that. But DH told him we're working, BM is working, no one can go get it bring it to him so he needs to think of what to do.
He stormed off. Lots of banging around looking for crayons, paper. LOTS of sniffling. DH ignored it. If SS needed help, he could ask, but never did. So we left him to figure it out for himself.
No rescuing. No dropping everything to solve it. I would've spit nails if DH had dropped the important tax prep he was doing (under deadline) to drive to BM's to get something SS should have remembered anyway.
On another note, this morning SS says: How many times do you think Dog1 (an elderly chihuahua who sometimes has accidents) peed in the house yesterday?
DH: None. He was good yesterday.
SS (triumphantly): Nope! He did it in my room last night!
WTH?!?
We jumped on it, asking where. SS said he didn't know. He just heard it. DH went up to check and couldn't find anything and neither could I. I told him, Look, if you think he has an accident you need to tell us right away. SS went red and nearly started crying. I swear, every time we correct him or say anything slightly critical he gets sullen and weepy. Good grief. At least DH told him the same thing.
