My last nerve is about to snap - Please help!!!

Hi everyone

I need some help please or I am going to explode, I just don’t know what to do?

Let me give you some background:

My SD10 has recently had some issues with how she feels about her weight. I do not think she is overweight at the moment but have seen how she doesn’t seem to have much of an idea of when she should stop eating. I try to handle this by making sure she only eats good healthy food and the right amount of it. Both Skids only have home cooked meals when they come to SO and myself (EOW and every Wednesday night) I take the time to plan and prepare good meals for them that I know they like. I know they eat complete rubbish at BMs she is lazy and thinks a bowl of plain pasta with ketchup is a good meal.

SD's granny keeps a height chart of both kids on her door and about 2 months ago measured them to update her chart. She also weighed them and made a big fuss about how much SD weighed, she then got out a book, which is about 40 years old, and told SD she was at least a stone over weight for her height and weight. She did this in front of SD's auntie, uncle, granddad and dad. I was not there. She was so upset and embarrassed and when I saw her she cried her little heart out she told me all about it and I tried to reassure her that her weight is fine and that she is perfect the way she is. SO raised this with his mother as being unacceptable and she needs to be aware that she is at a sensitive age and to think before she speaks sometimes. I have since found a note book of hers in which she has made a list of foods she is not going to eat, e.g. chips, burgers... There was about 8 things listed. Finding this list worried me a lot as I do not want SD to have any issues with food or her weight.

So I have been keeping a closer eye on her lately and after a little chat with her about healthy eating and still being able to have little treats, things have settled down and she has been ok (although I still keep a close eye on her with food)

Anyway last Thursday morning she did not want any breakfast. In the winter the Skids tend to have porridge or toast with juice and SD has always eaten this with no problems. Everything I offered her in its place was turned down followed slamming doors and stomping around the house. I tried not to make a big issue of it but I didn’t really want her to leave for school with no breakfast so she ended up having a yogurt.

This morning the same thing happened. Her brother had a bowl of cereal and a glass of milk she wouldn’t have anything. I told her that she has to eat something before school and asked her what she has at her mums. She has pancakes and cakes for breakfast there. I told her that kind of food is not very healthy for breakfast and that it’s the most important meal of the day. I offered her 5 or 6 alternatives all to which she said no. She started acting like a baby moaning and not answering anything me and SO were asking her. I don’t want to let her go to school with nothing as her BM will make such an issue of it and it’s not good for SD.

Anyway by this point I was losing my rag and told her to eat something so she went and got a strawberry moose from the fridge and ate it. - I was not impressed!

I spoke to her on her own once she had eaten it and asked her to think about what she would like to eat in the mornings. I told her she could not have pancakes or cakes as she has enough of them at her BM to think of something healthy. I told her that I would take her to the shops to pick some things she liked. She seemed OK with this and gave me a hug.

I don’t want this girl to have issues with food but alarm bells are ringing with me and SO.

Did I handle this right? what else can I do. This is stressing me out and I don’t know if I am doing the right thing here - Help
