StepTalk is mentioned in a novel I'm reading

I'm reading a novel titled "The New Husband" by D. J. Palmer.  A teenage girl loathes her mother's new love interest and gives him a really hard time simply because he exists.  At lunch her friend tells her about StepTalk and how the tagline is "where stepparents go to vent".  The novel reads: "The website confirmed what I had long suspected:  there were loads of stepparents who hated their stepkids.  Not all of course but enough that they needed a place to "vent" online.  It wasn't a stretch to stick Simon in this category.  I had no doubt he was putting on a big show for my mom.  He wanted her all for himself and we were the luggage he had to cart around."

Like i said the girl in the novel has been a total pain in the butt.  However...I'm pretty sure the stepfather turns out to be an evil individual.  Yet again.

It's novels like that one that contribute to society's problem where the perception is steplife/blended families is all unicorns and fun bonus parents. And if it's not it's because the new stepparent is evil. After all, everything was apparently perfect until the step showed up. And who couldn't love dear princess who farts rainbows out of her arse?

Of course.  I think in this one the stepparent turns out to be some sort of terrifying serial killer whackjob.

that divorce is in the family history. Yeah, it's all our fault.

I comment occasionally in the stepparents forum over on Reddit, and may have recommended StepTalk a time or two Wink

Probably one of those fake "stepkids" who post on here from time to time. I figured they were practicing their writing or doing research of some kind.

"loads of stepparents that hate their skids"... ya mean.. loads of steplife situations where the skids have not been properly parented by their bio parents.  Loads of situations where a stepparent's partner isn't stepping up and insisting their partner is treated with respect.. Loads of situations where a Toxic Ex makes life hell for their ex and anyone who dares to be in a relationship and around "their" kid?

So is the site getting royalties?

Stepkids hating their stepparentsnis a mainstream view and you see it everywhere. I'm glad a few of them stumble here to find that the feelings are mutual.

The site is not getting royalties.  This is the first I've heard of it.

We have had more than one "Author" stop by to stir some crap up over the years. I am not overly surprised.

I checked it out - some really bad reviews on this one...let us know what you think...

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this book!

I rarely write a book review a book, but this time I felt I had to. This is a terrible book. The story is unbelievable at best. This woman got out of a bad relationship and jumps into another terrible relationship a few months later. It felt like the author was in junior high school. Don't waste your time or money here!

Lol.  I like psychological thrillers which is what this is supposed to be.  I get all of my books through my local library so thank goodness I didn't pay $$ for it!!

Maybe I'll leave a review as well about the tired, been there done that, portrayal of step parents and maybe authors could, for once, take a different approach and try something new.

Perhaps a few of us here should check out the book and write something similar lol. Although nasty skids and horrid Bms rarely make for popular tropes.

The author is probably one of thise disgruntled skids who posts here from time to time, and is shocked that they aren't getting the "what a witch! Poor you!" that they get everywhere else.

I'm guessing if that is all the author got from researching this site then she must also have written a book on how to psychology abuse your child that still makes you look like a loving mother.
