OT - Update on breast cancer - additional tests scheduled

CBCharlotte's picture

Thanks everyone for your kind words and messages, much appreciated. I've been trying to keep myself busy and not completely freak out. (for history - I just turned 29 and they just found something on my MRI. I'm BRCA positive so 87% chance I will get breast cancer. My mom and both grandmoms are survivors, and my mom was diagnosed at only 38).

After many MANY calls, I was finally able to get the next steps scheduled. It was so disorganized and the whole thing is very stressful. On Tuesday I will have bilateral mammograms (both 2D and tomosynthesis) and an MR detected right breast ultrasound for biopsy planning. Once those results are reviewed, the doctors will decide if I need to move forward with a biopsy.

I'm really hoping it is nothing. My doctor isn't acting like it. He hasn't really said "It's probably a false positive" or anything like that. He is a new doctor since I just moved, so maybe it is his bedside manner. DH is trying to distract me and reassure me, which is helpful. We went out with my sister for dinner last night. I didn't sleep the first night, so last night I took ZZZquil and passed out...it was wonderful!

I have a wedding to go to in Quebec City on Friday so I'm off work. DH and my one year wedding anniversary is Tuesday so we're spending the whole weekend in Canada, which will be a nice distraction. Then we get to spend our anniversary in the University of Pennsylvania Perelman Cancer Center....woohoo.

Yes, unfortunately. I've had at least 4 mammograms and 3 MRIs before and always got the all clear Sad

Congratulations on your one year anniversary!

It's great that you're being so proactive about your health...early intervention makes all the difference. Breast cancer is very successfully treated these days.

You're blessed that your DH is so supportive. Stay strong and think positive! Smile

Yeah seriously listen to this^^^. The genetic testing and the check ups-even if it is something you've done everything you can do to catch it as early as possible. Positive vibes, a rested mind and strong dose of knowing you've done everything you can do to put your mind a peace is a powerful thing girly.

{Hugs} I know that this is a frightening time for you. The time between appointments and results is horrible. Glad that your DH is helping you and that you've been able to set up concrete steps & are developing a plan of action.

Do the best you can every day knowing you've done everything you can do for the day. Try to put it out of your mind this weekend and enjoy it with your husband. All of this will be waiting for you to take head on when you get back.

Early detection is key! I know with the familial history factor it is wracking your nerves - hang in there, do the best you can and try to distract yourself from thinking about it. Keep us updated on the situation.
