General Update
Hi Everyone,
It has been AGES since I posted. There really wasn't a point to posting - no real changes in life. Same soup, just reheated. Every time DH got close with a job, it fell through. No child support lowered (long story but basically DH is dragging his feet with BMs). For those who don't know the backstory, I'm 31, married to DH (54) for 3.5 years, together for nearly 8. I have 4 skids, SD19, SDstb16, SS9 and SS8. I get along great with all kids and very well with both BMs. DH was laid off 3 months before our wedding from a very high level executive job. We thought he would find something quickly and that has not been the case. June will be 4 YEARS unemployed. I have a very good job and make enough to pay for all of our bills and all the kids are on my insurance. The only thing I don't cover is child support, which runs $3,500 a month (yes, even on $0 income).
BUT I have a (hopefully) good news update! DH has had a ton of interviews in the last few months (some jobs local, some far away) and last week he got an offer! The job is about a 45 min - 1 hour commute from our house, but we wouldn't need to move. The role is for Chief Technology Officer for a large-ish (not name recognizable but about 5B in revenues) financial company. He would run the technology for the US (they are dutch owned). The salary is about half what he used to make, but still a lot and would leave plenty leftover after child support and bills. Of course, he accepted the job and is now going through the background check phase. The only snag is when he was unemployed he did some "consulting" (he really only had 1 large client and a few small things) and it's hard proving the small things. I think it will work out though. If you are the praying type, please say one for us. We desperately need this to work out - the savings account is almost to $0 and then we will go into CS arrears.
If it all works out his start date would be April 29th. So keep us in your thoughts!

I can't believe it's been 4 years. Thank God he saved.
So how does dh pay his child
So how does dh pay his child support since he has been out of work for 4 years. He refused to modify it?
Oh no no no no noooooooooooooooooooooooooo
You agreed to that? No modification to the cs 'award"?
I did not "agree"
He used to pay $4,900. A year or two after the layoff when the severence ran out, we spent nearly $15k in court to get it lowered. The judge lowered it to $4,000. This was based on the assumption that DH -could- get a job making $170k, so they calculated using imputed income (DH argued against this but court didn't care.) SD18 aged out and it went down to $3,500. We were talking to BM2 to lower again via agreement outside of court, but then DH gets close to getting a job and we don't pursue and then he doesn't get the job and we start talks again.
Sending positive vibes!

I'm thinking positive thoughts for your DH.
How did his CS order not get changed? I thought CS was based on income, which he hasn't had in the past 4 years.
They would probably impute
anyway.
You're correct

Thanks Everyone
Almost across the finish line. He's been back and forth with the background check company a bunch of times (basically a call center in India). They seem to lack critical thinking skills - they have their list of "approved documents" and don't want to accept anything else. DH created a company for his consulting/photography business, so we do have an official LLC we provided documents for. We provided printouts from Strips and Square (credit card payments from clients) and a 1099. They are still asking for pay stubs (he was the sole employee so didn't pay himself) and confirmation of end date (again, self employed, didn't terminate from the company). He finally got someone intelligent on the phone yesterday and hopefully cleared everything up. He is calling HR at the new company today to explain where everything is at. We just need to get over this last hurdle. Once it is official I can actually relax for the first time in nearly 4 years!
