But, But, But, I can't drink water!

No, seriously, I can't drink water. It makes me vomit. It gets to the back of my throat and won't go down at all. I can only drink drinks that have flavor. --SD9

There are adults who can't drink plain water. However, they have no problem getting down if it has lemon, cucumbers, mint,strawberries....in it.

Yup, but I see this more in adults than kids. The few kids that hear this from have parents that say they can't drink plain water.

Most of the people I see with the fresh fruit, cucumbers and/or mint in their water all say it's because they hate the taste of plain water. Very few say they do it for the health benefits.

He sure does! He won't drink water either--that's probably where she gets it from.

After she came out with that statement I asked her if she knew what I was drinking. She said no. My answer: Water.

WTF...REALLY's picture

And this is why she says it. Lost cause. Giver her some mint. She is doing as she sees her dad does.

SD5 @ 10am this morning; "I'm hot, can you get me an ice block" (She 'STATES' from the computer)

Me: "Um, NO, if you're hot you can get yourself a glass of water" (water cooler @ kids height and plastic cups always handy)

SD swings round and stares at me like I'm an alien; "but my mum gives me ice block when I'm hot"

I pretend to look around; "well you're mum isn't here. The water cooler is though"

Kids!!! Ugh.

" Now if DH really monitored her well things would improve"

How does the OP's DH monitor/force and insist child drink water when the child sees Dad won't drink water either? Your IV comment made me laugh as it's something I'd say to my own kid. But then I'd also be expecting her father to drink water in front of the kid even if he had to choke it down. Yes what the OP's skid said was ridiculous but I can't see the OP has much room to get overly excited to it when Dad sits there teaching by example.

He doesn't insist she drink water. I always offer it when we are eating meals, she just decided to go off on a dramatic tangent about how horrible water is when I offered it this time. I wasn't overly excited about it, I actually thought it was sort of funny how dramatic she was over water of all things.

DH doesn't refuse to drink water, he often drinks it when we are out at restaurants or after working in the yard. However, most of the time he drinks Coke or Powerade.

I have tried using Mio for water flavoring, but that doesn't work either. BM says she will drink water there with Mio, so I think it's just one of the many things she does here because A. Daddy lets her, and B. it occasionally gets a bit of attention.

My SD10 does the same thing, she won't drink water unless its flavored, she wont eat lettuce because it doesn't have enough flavor, ect...

She told DH he HAS to buy her the flavor drop in stuff for school, but it has to be generic kiwi strawberry, because its clear so then the teacher won't know she is drinking it. Rules at school say water ONLY!

BM buys it for her, we won't!

She refuses to drink water because it doesn't have "enough" flavor, it has to be sweetened.

When I heard that I told DH "I don't like pie, unless its served with ice cream and chocolate fudge to give it more flavor"
