Finally the mammoth is gone but sadly not before damage was done - OT
So as all of you may remember about 2 months ago DH came home without my permission with a big Bull Mastiff dog that he adopted from a friend who has gone off to another state to college. Well many posts later I can finally say the dog is gone. DH took him to the Humane Society this morning. We ran ads and tried for a month to sell the dog to a family who has no cats, but since the dog was not fixed and not up to date on shots no one wanted him. Also being so big once anyone saw him they just said they did not have the means to not only feed him but house him.
So, this went on for quite a long time and then DH kinda thought that since I was not making a big deal of things anymore he'd just sorta let the dog stay. Then a few days ago we were sitting having coffee and the dog was laying on the livingroom floor beside DH, I had opened the fron door and unbeknown to us bs15 had opened his window to let my cat out side, suddenly the dog leaped up jumped clean over the coffee table and 4 foot high gate we had set in the doorway and tore down the front yard at break neck speed. I jumped up and just as I looked out the door my cat was leaping the 8 foot high cedar fence with the dog lunging at her hind end. He got her back leg in his jaw but her momentum luckily kept her from getting caught fully and she held on to the top of the fence with her claws and the dog lost grip and she disappeared. I finally found her 8 hours later hiding in a thick bush and it took me over an hour to convince her to come to me. Her hind leg is ok, not broken through the flesh and Vet said she'd be ok but to get rid of the dog or get her a new home.
When this all happened I started crying and running a looking all over for her and was so angry at the dog I could not stand the sight of him all day. DH took him to work as I spent the day looking for kitty. When he got back I could not believe he still had the dog but ss16 tried to keep the dog by sulking and then taking him on a long 3 hour run, etc. Finally DH reversed the scenerio and told ss16 that is the mastiff had chased and run down the little dog how would he feel is he was scared and had to hide all day long and stay only in his room like the cat's been staying only in bs15's room for 2 months.
This morning when I let the cat out she was sneezing and limping and I was crying again when DH got up and suddenly he said he was not going to see his wife cry anymore over a dog and that this was enough, he was taking the dog in. But a person can't just take a dog in anymore b/c there is no space so we had to pay a lot of money to have him taken in by the Humane society and that was even after we told them he chased down and harmed our cat.
But now we are rid of that dog and I am hoping and praying my cat is not scared emotionally for life and that one day she will lay in front of the fire place on her back again and be a fat lazy happy cat. I am so sad this was not a good experience. I am also sad that my cat had to be harmed before DH would do anything about the dog. I am not an animal hater, but I am a true cat person and love every kind of feline. The little dog is almost feline so he's ok here. lol

Your DH has a job now?
Your DH has a job now?
Yes, we have a small company
Yes, we have a small company that he works part time at, as he gets healthier from cancer he will slowly build up our business again. One day I'd like to quit my two jobs and work only for our company, but it's taken a ding with DH having cancer for a year. Serious ding.
Yes, DH finally realized what
Yes, DH finally realized what he'd done. We also made a deal that we will not adopt anymore animals that are older, but adopt baby animals so we can train them according to how we want them to be. The only two pets that have worked out over the long term are the little shihtzu we got at 8 weeks old and the cat I got from the Humane society at a younger age, not really young but young enough. We've had 3 other dogs that have just not worked out and all 3 have been 3+ yrs old.
The other thing we discussed is that pets should never come into our home at the expense of a person's or other pet's happiness. I was never happy with the mastiff b/c he was just too big to handle. If he wanted to go somewhere he either barged in (ss16's bedroom door frame is splintered) or chewed his way through (the picket fence we had when he first arrived he chewed like tooth picks and got lose). And then there is the case of the cat having to live with bs15 in his room for the past 2 months, and had to run for her life on several occasions. So obviously this dog took a huge toll on our home.
I just got off the phone with
I just got off the phone with ss19, he lived with the young man who went to college and we adopted the mastiff from, for about 6 months. Guess what he told me (now that the dog is gone), that the dog chased down 4 cats in that neighborhood and mangled them after holding them down and playing with them like a cat and mouse, and 2 of the 4 cats died. I didn't know what to say except WHYYYYYYYY did you not tell us this before especially KNOWING I HAVE A CAT????????????
There are times when I wonder how much dh and his boys don't tell me :?
More reason that SS19 should
More reason that SS19 should be banned from your home and life.
What is really really sad
What is really really sad here? There is another dog at the humane society. And this one has a history.
One more fantastic example of humans failing.
Did you even try a Mastiff rescue? I don't know where you live, but seriously. Big mastiffs don't get adopted from shelters. Mastiffs require humans that know how to train and manage them.
I'm glad your cat is ok, but it really is a pity that it came to this.
The shelter told DH that they
The shelter told DH that they would neuter him and then he'd get sent over to the mastiff shelter next Monday. Yes, it's sad and I am not happy, we tried to find a home first.
