OT - Mammograms and The Vaccine
THIS IS A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT.
If you are scheduled for a mammogram and have recently gotten the vaccince, call your doctor/medical office.
The vaccine can cause the lymph nodes on the vaccine side of your body to be swollen, which can result in a faulty mammogram. IOW, you will have to suffer through another mammogram.
End of Announcement
PLEASE do not turn this into a discussion about whether or not folks should get the vaccine. This topic has become so inflammatory that I have lumped it in with political, religious, and nooky preferences: TABOO! I will delete those comments.
P.S. Does anyone else refer to this as a SLAM-O-GRAM? *dash1*

Yes, it is. My sister had a double-mastectomy a few years ago and I've had two call backs since then. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!
I usually get called back
I usually get called back/bounced over to Ultrasound due to some anomalies and dense tissues. Went I went this month, the receptionist asked if I'd gotten the vaccine and explained about side effects possibly skewing mammo results. My provider has made it policy to ask every radiology patient this at check in.
This office has it posted on
This office has it posted on Halloween-orange paper that is just to the right of the view to the nurse through the plexiglass. You cannot miss it!
Good to know!!! Thanks.

Do you think that the same
Do you think that the same problem could be caused by any vaccine or just this one? Just curious.
I do not know, Winterglow. I
I do not know, Winterglow. I have never seen this type of sign posted during the height of flu vaccine season. *unknw*
I think the mRNA vaccines
I think the mRNA vaccines like Pfizer and Moderna have more side effects like this than traditional vaccines.
I think you're right, tog.

Slam O Gram
LOL.
The very first mammogram I had I got a callback for an ultrasound, which of course didn't have an available appointment for 3 weeks. Those were 3 sucky weeks. It was benign and for a couple of years I always had a follow up ultrasound but now am just at the regular screening mammo's.
It is not fun but I had mine a couple of months ago so I'm set for the year.
Sucky is an accurate word to
Sucky is an accurate word to describe those days in limbo.
I had to postpone my annual mammogram because... the 'rona. I was not happy about!
This isn't mammogram related
This isn't mammogram related but, when I got my side tattooed (ribs) the lymph's in my groin and armpit blew up. Normal reaction to having needles jab you repeatedly for hours.
They went down after a few days.
Unfortunately, this is WEEKS.

BTW, those side tats are ouchie!
I read that a while back and
I read that a while back and forgot all about it! Thanks for the reminder! No one wants to do that more than they have to! Thankfully my next mamogram is quite a way off and I just got my first shot yesterday.
Callbacks for mammograms are
Callbacks for mammograms are bad enough. The possiblity of the vaccine causing a faulty read and not knowing if it was the vaccine OR an actualy issue would be very sucky.
If men had to get "penograms"....
I think if men had to go in each year, put their weenies on a glass tray and have them smashed down, new diagnostic techniques would suddenly emerge.. Lol.
Right?! The machines have
Right?! The machines have improved somewhat, but it's still unpleasant and painful. This time 'round, it felt like my boob was clamped down so tightly, it would have ripped off if I'd sneezed. Most painful slam-o-gram I've ever had. *diablo*
YES!!!
YES!!!
It is like the whole reason there isn't a male birth control pill- men couldn't handle the side effects!
Could you imagine them going
Could you imagine them going through manopause? One hot flash that would melt an iceberg and they'd be freaking out.
I say that to the tech every
I say that to the tech every year! Lol. I'm sure lots of us tell them that. They do now have a 3D one that reduces call backs.
3D is the best for sure. Some
