Had my assessment this morning

It went okay, I was starting to feel a bit off when we walked in but the social worker was really nice and I didn't get any judgemental vibes off him if you know what I mean, so I was put at ease and could answer his questions without throwing up or anything.

Basically he just asked me a bunch of questions, wrote things down and after about an hour of this we were done. He told me that according to the screening I have Panic Disorder and mild PTSD.

Super. I didn't qualify for treatement from them because apparently they only offer group therapy and other things that didn't really apply to me but I have an appointment next week to speak to another social worker who is going to help me find a therapist in the area, help me apply for medicaid and refer me to a low cost doctor if I need to be on medication.

So thats that. I can put a name now to why I am feeling this way and hopefully start getting it treated so I can be myself again Smile

Im so proud of you for having the courage to go thru all this!! Believe it or not, you are alot stronger then you think!! I too suffer from ptsd. Its one step at a time, but with a good counselor they can help you figure out how to realize what triggers your anxiety-- so that at some point you can learn to step away from things before they control you. Sometimes its also a relief to know just what it is too!! Hang in there girl, you can do this!!

Thanks everyone Smile I did feel better after leaving because it was just such a relief to have an actual professional tell me what I knew all along I guess. Its one thing to google symptoms and be like yes that is what I have..but maybe I'm just going crazy, and having a pro tell you that you're not going crazy and its totally treatable. Smile

Yes, I see my dh live with PTSD every day. It exhausts me. I know it must exhaust him. Good luck!

I'm glad that you saw someone and hope you can manage the anxiety. I went through a period of several years of panic attacks, and THEY SUCK.

Now, a caution. This person spent a whopping hour with you and has diagnosed you with TWO mental health issues. Doesn't that seem a bit...
reckless?

Yeah I agree, I agree with him on the panic disorder but ptsd seemed a little far fetched. Obviously I'm not going to run to a doctor and beg them to prescribe me something just off of that but I am going to see a therapist and have him send over the report so I can look into it more.
