OT- Polycycstic Ovarian Syndrome and Weight Loss?
I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 22. My cycles have been crazy ever since I can remember, and my acne looks worse than my teenage skids! I am also only 5 foot tall, and about 35 pounds overweight.
While doing a low carb diet almost 10 years ago, I was able to get pregnant, after years of being told I wouldn't have kids. Gibby was our little miracle that made our family complete.
I have done everything I can think of to lose weight. I exercise 30 minutes a day, I watch my calories. I admit- I have an addiction to fountain sodas and some days, McDs fries are the only things that get me through this crazy life...
I spent a HUGE amount of time reading box labels in the diet supplement isle at Wally world today, but fearful, I walked away empty handed. I came home and surfed the web instead, for advice and suggestions. I came up with a few questions for my doc when I go in for my annual exam next week. I do see that many of the calories I have been taking in are "empty" and too processed...
Any advice or suggestions on diet plans to research or questions for my doctor. It was one of those things I had been thinking about for months- "I wanna lose weight for graduation, etc." But it didn't hit home until I saw myself in a three way mirror at the department store... I look horrible. Much older than my 36 years... I still look better than Loca Grande, even on her worst day, but that's not good enough!
Please give me something other than "low carb." I can't do it. I hate bacon and most meats. I'm not really a veggie person. I love breads and pastas and potatoes, but I have learned to cut way back on them to once a week, and I'm trying to switch to wheat...

I am 5'9" and used to weigh
I am 5'9" and used to weigh about 200lbs. I now weigh about 140-145lbs with my lowest weight being 135lbs. It took me about a year to lose all that weight. I used to eat predominantly fast food, and like you ate a TON of carbs. I always craved carbs.
Once I started attempting to eat healthy, and yes, it was a battle at first, I eventually realized that I wasn't craving the carbs as much. In the beginning I had to force myself to try veggies I had never had and to eat yogurt. I now like a larger variety of veggies and of course fruits.
I also continued to allow myself candy/chocolates/chips, but this is what I did. If I bought a bag of chips, before even taking one bit, I would dump half to 3/4's of the bag into the garbage. I couldn't limit my self by willpower so I made it impossible for me to eat the whole bag. I did the same thing with other "bad" treats.
And of course exercise. I started out slow, working out for maybe half an hour. I eventually peaked at about an hour of intense exercise. Once I was at a weight I was happy with, I cut back on my exercising to about 20-30 minutes.
Hope this helps. PM if you want any more "tips". I will try to think if there's anything else I did that may help you.
Ok, I loooove heath bars.
Ok, I loooove heath bars. When i count my calories for the day, i start with how many heath bars i can eat and then work backwards to see how i can still only have 1600 calories LOL!!

My sister also has PCOS. She lost 70 lbs in 6 months just from cutting her caloric intake and walking. She was walking three miles a day though, which most of us dont have time for.
So super simple : Be a vegan
So super simple : Be a vegan !!!!! Or if you can't handle that, be a vegetarian! I was a vegetarian until I met dh, and then I gained like 45 lbs (i also have pcos and its as if I have 0 metabolism). Then about six months ago I decided I really dont like meat anymore (again) and I have been dropping the pounds left and right. It is so super healthy and it feels really good too. I have 3 sisters and a brother and they are all veg heads. when the girls want to lose some weight, the switch from vegetarian to vegan and get even teeny tinier than they already are LOL. Seriously though.. Vegetarian lifestyle is good for you, just make sure you get your protein and take vitamins . Those healthy choice microwave veggies are DELISH, and if you've never had (super low cal) really good tofu or vanilla soy milk, you are seriously missing out on life LOL !!
