New show "Modern Family" -- funny, but realistic view on being a stepparent....

There's a new show on ABC called "Modern Family" & by chance we watched it the other night. The grandfather (Jay) on the show is played by Ed O'Neill (best known as Al Bundy on "Married...with Children) & he recently married a much younger woman who has a young son (Manny). There was a great scene where Jay & Manny are working on a project together just before Manny's father comes to pick him up to take him to Disney World. Manny is going on & on about how wonderful his father is. Jay is taking it with a grain of salt -- occasionally making a sarcastic comment that goes over Manny's head. Well, the conversation between them that had me laughing the most went something like this:

Manny is bragging about how strong & brave his father is. "He doesn't even wear a seatbelt when he drives!", "Once he killed a bear!".

Jay then says, "Was the bear in the car?".

I thought it was hilarious! Maybe it's a you had to be there type of joke & if I ever find it on YouTube, I'll post it! But I thought the whole thing was pretty realistic. Here's this kid who's building up his father to be this superhero type, meanwhile the poor stepdad knows the truth about the guy & does his best to deal with it. Oh, and Manny's dad is a no-show, so Jay ends up having to break it to the kid that his dad's not taking him to Disney World. (Then cancels the romantic weekend he had planned with Manny's mom & all 3 of them go to Disney World instead.) I just can COMPLETELY relate to this type of situation, as I'm sure many of you can!

A mother is not defined by the "b" or the "s" in front of her name, she is defined by how she handles the "mother" part.....

I love that show!! hahahaha my husband and I are the couple that's been married nearly 20 years!! I loved the part in the first episode where the dad had to shoot his son with a BB gun because he had shot his sister and how is response when his wife told him to do it was, "sorry buddy, it's on the calendar". I will definitely be DVRing and watching that show every week.
