The SD's came over this last weekend. SD16 was distracted from her usual critique of our house and pets by a trip to the Dollar Store. She is always broke but loves to decorate for the holidays, so DH took them to get stuff to decorate our house for Halloween. SD18 actually came out of her silent angry funk for a hot minute! She actually SPOKE. She had a conversation at dinner with minimal accusatory BS. It was kind of nice, except that DH had taken SD18 to the store to get stuff to make dinner. We had 2 dinners : one for the family and one for SD18, who wanted to make herself some disgusting version of Panda Express deep fried chicken. When I came home from work, she had a huge pot of boiling cooking oil on our newly cleaned stove. She was dipping chicken in eggwash, then flour, then deep frying it in oil. 

Dh asked her quietly if her little sis and I could eat our dinner first since hers was taking awhile. (Ours had already gotten cold and SD18 was still deep frying her chicken.)  She apparently agreed ( so happy I have HER permission!) and we ate our cold steak and mashed potatoes. I tried one of her chicken thingys and it was disgusting. Its pretty hard to screw up deep fried chicken, but she did it. So, after dinner SD18 disappears to her room, leaving the huge mess she made with oil and flour everywhere. I stared at DH until he looked at me and said "Have fun cleaning that up because I am NOT TOUCHING it. "  Neither of us like the smell of dirty grease in our home, so we keep the stove very clean. 

I closed the door to our bedroom so it wouldn't stink like a McDonalds, then we went to bed. As I am laying there I smell brownies baking. Although I had hidden the baking supplies, SD18 had purchased a brownie mix at the store and as soon as I was in bed she re-dirtied the kitchen with her brownie mess. Did she or SD16 save any brownies for DH or I ? Nope. This is why I can't stand them. They just use us for whatever they can get and then take off and leave a big mess. They have no manners at all. 

While I was happy to have a reprieve from the sullen bitchiness, I was not happy about the snail trail of oil that SD18 leaves in her wake.
