MEN!
MEN are soooo special! Okay so i’ve gotta get this off my chest! I’m a PLANNER and I like things ORGANIZED…so sue me! Well SD5 will be turning 6 tomorrow. We are having a themed birthday party at out house. American Idol….the kids will dress up and “perform” and the adults will “judge” my husband has a mini-studio in his office in our basement so he will actually play tracts for them to sing to and then put their recording on a CD for them to take home after the party. I’m excited and I know it will be fun! So anywayz…I’ve ordered the EXACT amount of American Idol party favors and place settings that we will need based on the guest list….today I get an e-mail from my husband that he invited his co-worker and her son to the party. WTF?! He has NO CONCEPT of the fact that this “nicety” has just thrown me off completely…to which he says “everyone doesn’t have to eat off of American Idol plates/cups/napkins and get a Gift Box” such a MAN…how does he think the kid is gonna feel who gets the plain white place setting while all the other kids get AI?! I’m hoping one kid doesn’t show! UGGGHHH! Okay…I feel so much better now!

Men!
That's so typical! Sounds like my husband. Maybe you could run out and grab something that would match your themed cups, plates, etc. and then just kind of do half and half, some people get AI cups with plain plates, others get AI plates with plain cups. Grab another set of similar party favors and throw them all in a big bowl, let the kids pick and choose what they want. (Maybe someone won't want the AI stuff and will opt for the other.) The gift boxes are a tough one... is there an older kid that wouldn't mind giving it up? GOOD LUCK!
I envy you getting to do this and I think it's a fabulous idea for a birthday party. We have never been allowed to get the kids on their actual birthdays, but I always try to give them a special party with our family, too. I know it will be great and it sounds like you've done an outstanding job planning it!

I wouldn't worry to much.
I wouldn't worry to much. You only have about 2/3 of the people who were sent invitations actually show, most of the time in my experience
Women are Natural Organizers!
I a big planner, list maker, I like an agenda for most anything I do. I find with lists, the thought leaves my head and I don't have to worry about it anymore. Men are not like that and most never will be. I like the ideas above, plan for an extra the best you can, but maybe not get that together and perhaps someone will not show up. If everyone does, you can reorganize a little bit to accomodate the extra child.
A.I. is a great idea! My SD would love that.
