Do you think your overweight?

misguided's picture

I am 5'9 and weigh 165. According the BMI chart I am on the upper end of normal. 24.4. I feel really overweight though. I have tried dieting and it just is not working. I have never had this much trouble losing weight. I think it must be hitting 40! The metabolism must be slowing down. I gained about 12 pounds over the last couple of months and it feels like 30 pounds. LOL. Anyone have any ideas how to lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks? I have a big event coming up at the end of January. Also curious to know if YOU feel overweight vs. really are?
Thanks

I think most of us FEEL overweight whether we really are or not. I'm 5'2" and have just hit the 130 mark. 2.5 years ago I was 105, which is where I need to be again, so I feel your pain... I'm feeling horribly overweight when in fact I can still wear a size 8 just fine so I'm not fat by any stretch of the imagination. But boy do I love love love wearing a size 2! LOL! I have a friend and her favorite quote is this: No food tastes as good as thin feels! I keep trying to remember that but man oh man oh man I sure think chocolate tastes amazingly great!

Im with you on this one lol im 5'9 and 250 there are some days that I do not feel overweight then there are days where i feel as i am in the goddamn stage lol. Mostly when i try to go shop for clothes finding and 18 is not as easy as it should. If i ever got below 160 though ( im shotting for 200 atm) i would feel to think, not because i think its to thin but because of my frame i would look sick.

You should stick to 1200 calories a day. High fiber, low carbs, and lots and lots of salads. I always sprinkle crumbled bacon on my salads (a tablespoon) and use low cal dressing. I also eat lots of vegetables. For instance, you can eat all the cucumbers you want. I also eat several pieces of fruit every day. I'm eating around every 2.5 to 3 hours a day. I am also exercising 4-5 times a week. I started this combination a couple weeks ago and I've lost seven pounds. I have gained some weight this past year and had gotten really out of shape and I decided to change my eating habits. I used to be REALLY thin - some thought TOO thin. Now, I have gained approximately 15 pounds this past year and I feel BLAH.......... After losing 7 pounds, everything is fitting better and I feel great which is keeping me motivated.

And sugar free jello - is only 10 calories! I eat a couple of those every day. And for the crunchy late night cravings - I will sometimes have a couple handfuls of peanuts.

I miss my potato chips and dip!!!

I will stick to this diet for another month and then begin rewarding myself every once in a while with some of my favorites - pizza, quarter pounder with cheese and fries, and steak and baked potato!

Good luck! Also, drink only diet pop - but the best thing is lots of water. I don't drink any water ever. But my FH drinks about 3-4 glasses a day and he's lost 10 pounds in two weeks. And he's sticking to a 1500 calorie a day diet.

I think that is an awsome diet plan however, I have a digestive system disorder that prevents me from eating to much fiber, and most of the salad world, a few fruits, and some veggies that i love. A lot of my weight gain has come from this as it is difficult to find good foods that I like that I can safely eat. I am still trying though!!

LMAO Evil-me too 5'7 296lbs!!!!! I look inthe mirror and see a beautiful woman in the face but then I see the rest of me makes me want to cry and I have. DBF says its ok but thats not what I want to hear-2010 is going to be different-rough but different.

**I only have one shot at a truly great life and not one spent waiting for a man to notice me, want me, love me and be true to only me. 2010 is the year of "me" - if you don't want to be a has-been in '10 where I'm concerned better get it in gear and catch up**

I'm 5'8" and about 165-168. According to Wii Fit Plus, my BMI is about 25. something which anything over 25 is considered 'overweight'. Do I feel overweight? YES!

When I was about 25, I weighed 125. By the time I hit 30, I weighed about 160. Of course that's when I quit smoking and I've been struggling with my weight ever since. I've gained and lost the same 30 lbs about 5 times now. I got back down to about 153 right before my wedding 8 months ago and now trying to lose it AGAIN. I would love to be a size 7/8 which would be about 145 lbs for me.

I've lost weight doing eDiets, Weight Watchers, Cookie Diet (Smart for Life) and now Herbalife. All diets, if you are strict enough, well help you lose the weight, the issue is I always return to old eating habits eventually. It just depends on which diet you can stick with? eDiets was easy because it will tell you exactly what to eat. Weight Watchers is counting 'points', Cookie Diet was super easy but you have to by the product (Costco online has it) and Herbalife seems kinda expensive and doesn't seem to be working as fast as the others (I've only lost like 4 lbs in 3 weeks)

The big help is excercizing... LOTS of cardio type stuff, long brisk walks, hiking, arobics.

Well, that's my 2 cents Smile Good luck!

I don't just feel overweight, I am overweight. 5'7" and 170 right now. I was 135 before getting pregnant twice in a row. Now I have two beautiful baby girls and 35 pounds left to lose. It was a real shock when I decided to start wearing real clothes again (not just pajamas or maternity clothes) and I had to go up to a size 18. I was so depressed and horrified. I still am. I started at a size 8. I hope that those of you who are bigger than me don't find offense to any of this, I am not meaning to call anyone horrifying or fat... But for me, I can't deal mentally with myself being this big. I understand that in the grand scheme of things, I am really not all that big, but I am still overweight and much bigger than my normal comfortable 135.

I have learned that there is no way I will be able to get this weight off without exercising. I dropped the first 15 pounds in 3 weeks just by dieting but now diet alone will not cut it anymore. I eat about 1000 to 1200 calories a day and the weight WILL NOT BUDGE unless I exercise - and I'm just 24. I would say that it's probably going to be even harder for someone who is 40 to lose weight without exercising. Also, I think the closer you are to an ideal weight range, the less "dieting alone" will accomplish for you - which is probably why the weight will fall off of people who have much more to lose, but it takes much longer and much more work for someone in a healthier weight range like yourself to see results.

I have one word for you ladies: Hydrocolonics. If you need to lose weight fast. It's super gross but we are all carrying around roughly 10 to 15 pounds of waste in our systems because most women tend not to have the most efficient bowel movements. Do a series of colonics in the next two weeks and I guarantee you will kick start the weight loss. Combine that with very careful eating and some exercise and you will look great for your big event.

Stick's picture

Constantly!! I have sooo wanted to try this! Even though it is kind of gross.... I just am really curious about it. I have maybe 10 pounds to lose, so I wonder how much it would help?

Constantly_guilty's picture

Stick, do it. You need to do a series because sometimes the first one just kinda gets things moving but you don't see huge results. But if you do three, you could easily see several pounds of weight loss. The trick is that you gotta start the diet at the same time in order to maintain the results and increase the losses. Make sure you are eating lots of fiber too to keep things moving along on their own.

Nymh's picture

Me too! Would you think a hydrocolonic would be recommended over colon-cleansing products?

*~So sayeth Nymh~*

Constantly_guilty's picture

Much better than a colon cleansing product in my opinion. Better results and without all the "racing to the bathroom."

Misguided... the BEST thing I ever did for dieting - but it's SUPER HARD... is the protein / Atkins diet.

I felt great... my skin looked great and I lost weight quickly. It is just soo hard to stick to.

Water only... no coffee, soda, etc

High protein, almost no carbs / starches.... and lots and lots of veggies. And restrictions on the types of fruit.

I have gained weight recently -due to inactivity mostly, but I am guessing some hormones...?? Don't know. I've been lazy so I know it's really my own stupidity. BUT I can tell you that even when I try to incorporate a little of the Atkins diet into my routine, I see results.

I'm 5'7" and I weigh 142. Until I married 2 years ago, I weighed around 120 - my ENTIRE adult life. I'm small framed and almost all of my weight gain is in my belly and butt. And I gained it ALL within about 3 months after my wedding. That tells me it's stress, lack of sleep, and alcohol. I rarely drank before I re-married and now I'm up to 3 or 4 drinks a night. I'm seriously afraid I'm becoming an alcoholic. I've actually been thinking about posting a blog about how unhealthy step-parenting has been for me.

Anyhoo, I'm quitting drinking (this weekend is IT dammit!!) and I'm moving to a different bedroom to try to get back into my old habits of having some down time every night and going to bed earlier. DH says it'll be like we're roommates, but I still think it's better than divorce. Wink

But to answer your question - No, I'm not considered overweight, but every day that I squeeze myself into my "fat clothes" (because nothing else fits anymore), I feel like a complete fatass.

Good luck to you!! All of you!!!

Not anymore.

Sad

Grief makes me feel like puking all day and night. If it weren't for a xanax rx my GP gave me the day after finding out about tmy H's new life he has planned for himself, I wouldn't sleep or eat right now.

All these years I thought I wish I could get me some of that good old fashioned grief appetite loss (without the grief part.)

God was listening but must have decided to teach me to be careful what I wish for.

realistcally, it's hard to loose 10 lbs. in 2 weeks??? (the healthy way)I'm 5'0 and i'm at about 110.. I was smaller a few years ago, but at my heavyest (135) I was out growing my size 10s. I started walking at least a mile (at first) 2-3 times a week and as time whent on I did it more often and longer walks. I went from a full size dinner plate to a saucer for my meals, ordered the kids meals in the drive threws, and brought home doggie bags when we went out for dinner(I still ate the same things, just smaller portions) It's ok to still feel hungry, just fight it out.. and understand if you do it the heathy way,, 2-3 lbs. is what you should loose a week,, these hollywood diets where you loose 7 lbs in 7 days just doesn't happen,,, It took about 4 months to get to where I wanted to be,, but everytime you see the numbers go down it keeps your attitude positive,, I have seen wonderful results with friends of mine the used weight watchers,, one thing I learned is that I will ALWAYS have to watch what goes in my mouth,, now that i'm 43 it just becomes my way of living,, just like when i quit smoking,, (1 1/2 years ago)it's all about will power and changing our lifestyle?

if you lose 10lbs in 2weeks you will likely gain it all back and then some. Harsh reality but most likely true based on my own experience with speed dieting.

Do your measurements honey, then go online to a fat percentage calculator and enter your numbers. This will tell you how much of your weight is fat,how much is muscle,bone,water,etc... The average woman carries about 32% fat around according to a study I read recently.

Plus remember, women are their own worst enemies...when I was 18 and 102lbs, I thought i was a giant heffer. looking back, I was sickly looking and had that look like I ran to throw up as soon as I ate. it's all in how you view yourself.

Right now, I'm a size 8...but I feel enormous. my measurements indicate I have a fat percentage of about 16%...so the bulk of my weight is from muscle. Even knowing that, I STILL feel fat and EVERYONE else is skinny. UGH, go figure right? Distorted body perception, don't let it ruin your self esteem girls.

Umm...
I Had a push up challenge on the Wii Fit Plus.
So I tried it. I beat the instructor!
It was a girl though.
Does beeting a virtual girl instructor count for something?
LOL!
