Why do kids think adults are stupid?

Mantra_Momma's picture

This morning when I went into the kitchen to tell SD7 it was time to go to school, she had barely touched her breakfast. When I asked her why, she thought about it for a few seconds (always the tell that she's about to lie) and said she had just gotten upstairs to the table. I told her I knew that wasn't true because I heard her come up.

I asked if she remembered how DH and I feel about lying and even if she's afraid to tell the truth, she would get in much more trouble if she is caught lying. She knew that, so I asked why she felt she had to lie when I asked her such a simple question like why she wasn't eating her breakfast. She just sat there thinking about it and giving me all kinds of excuses that didn't make sense.

Why bother lying to me about something so trivial? Now she's in trouble for that. I wouldn't have gotten mad at whatever her real reason was, I just would've explained yet again that she knows what time we leave for school and needs to be ready to go at that time.

We are stupid. When our kids learn to talk we become idiots and retain our idiot status until our kids turn ~ 30.

Get used to it. You only have 27 (make that 23 .... see even basic math is problem for us stupid adults) more years of stupidity to go.

Best regards,

Success is rarely final. Failure is rarely fatal. It is character, courage and consistency of effort that count. Vince Lombardi (with some minor Rags modifications) To each according to their performance, screw Karl Marx. (Rags)

Must be the weather or something...LOL! My SD lied to me about eating breakfast this morning also. She said that she had eaten and I knew she hadnt so I asked her what she had and THEN she admitted that she hadnt eaten yet. I dont get it either!
