They put in their order sometime in June or so.
There was no discussion with me about if I wanted to go....it was more like...they expect all their sons to be there. This is a good five hour or so drive away.

I think I will just ask him what day he wants to have the holiday with me and the pups since he will be away. I really don't care about the actual day. Being alone is preferred over traveling and being with his family.
His folks were in our area for over a week this summer and came over to visit once. To see the new pups. They did not invite us to share a meal with them...or even to the mini family reunion that at least one of DH's cousins attended...prior to this the family reunion thing only included the siblings of DH's parents or so we were told.
And a trip we were on with them last fall did not go well....so even though their short visit went ok...pups kept everyone entertained....I am not in a hurry to ever visit them again. It never goes well.
I am just over making time for people that are uncomfortable to be around.
