An Ambiguous Role
Having just read a response to another post which said, "What's wrong with being 'Dad's wife?'," it got me thinking.
For some step parents being "Dad's wife" is enough. They neither want nor expect anything more which works well when all parties agree. It becomes a problem however when Dad wants his wife to treat his children as family or a child wants more than a step parent is prepared to give.

Praise be to pink neon!
An update on the skid wedding - which thankfully is now behind me not in front of me. Sorry it's long...feel free to move onto another blog!
I wrote down all of your gift suggestions and passed them to DH (claiming all ideas as my own). For the sake of harmony, a couple of ideas didn't make the list :) He went with vouchers at an equivalent cost to the 4 of us attending.

OT - Quote of the week
We read a lot of comments on here which can be helpful, amusing, frustrating...and you take from them what you will. Sometimes though a comment really sticks with you above all others. Top quote for me this week, based on its sheer stupidity, was the comment by Merrigan's DH in relation to her SD setting fire to the table:
He only said “she mustn’t have heard us say no.”
That's made me laugh every time I've thought of it.Top quotes from anyone else or is this the clear winner?!

Wedding gift?
So, thank you all who comented on my first blog. As suspected, OSD is punishing DH for including his seond family in the wedding. After the silent treatment for weeks, she has finally got in touch to say she doesn't want DH to give her away, doesn't want him on the top table (thank god!) and doesn't want him to give a father-of the-bride speech.
DH, as usual, cannot communicate his feelings about this. He 'doesn't know why she's done this' etc. Translate as 'She's behaving like a shit but I can't admit it'.

SD wedding and dreading it
Ok so a bit of backstory: DH and I have been together for 20 yrs and have DD16 and DS14. Then there is SD30 and SD28. Last time I saw OSD was 12 yrs ago when I had finally had enough of her spiteful and entitled behaviour, told DH she was no longer welcome in our house and disengaged.
