I wasn't up to it today
DH86 and I planned a quiet Thanksgiving at home today. I accidentally bought a duck instead of a turkey but whatever. SD62 called this morning and he later passed the phone to me. She related her dinner plans at home alone today with a bigger dinner tomorrow at her daughter's. She sounded ok and since she's very picky, had the exact food she likes.
DH came in to me half an hour later. "Should we call SD back and invite her over?". He was worried she'd be lonely, he means well I know he wants me to be supportive of her but with plans to visit Mom in her long term place and dinner to cook, I just wasn't up for it. I told him I didn't feel like hearing about her problems with her kids, her car issues, the health recitation and the rest. Plus, if she heard it was duck, she'd turn up her nose. He took it pretty good.
I'm thankful for one less interaction with her during the holidays.

Hey, JRI,
Hey, JRI,
She's not coming yet she still managed to cast a pall on your day. Regardless of your husband having taken it well, his obvious preference was to have his daughter hosted for dinner and now you're having to experience guilt, no matter how miniscule. I suggest that you pour yourself a 'mega glass of wine' (a quote from Amber Heard's lawyer) and put your SD out of your mind. ♥️
He asked again
About an hour before we ate, he asked again, "Shouldn't we call SD?" He's compassionate and just doesnt realize how she puts a black cloud over everything. Yes, i'm laying on my couch with my 2nd glass of wine. Lol.
Lol JRI I'm sorry for
Lol JRI I'm sorry for laughing but you buying a duck makes me feel better because you know what I did?
I peeled all those damn potatoes for mashed potatoes for DH and I'd small Thanksgiving, put them in a crock pot and... forgot about them! We were finished with the food before I remembered they were still sitting in the crockpot (facepalm).
Hugs. Completely understandable you weren't up to hosting his daughter. I'm sure she sucks the air out of the room and leaves you feeling more drained when she's gone. That's exactly how I feel when LI visits. You just don't want to have to listen to it all. I hope your duck was delicious.
Duck
Sunday afternoon, we went grocery shopping. It was a zoo, so crowded, you couldn't get thru the aisles. I wanted a small turkey breast. We were in the frozen aisle but the people were 2 deep and the turkeys were too big. I finally edged down and saw a small package, just the size I wanted. I assumed it was a turkey since all the rest were but I didn't look carefully and the weight/price tag was over "Duck". I just wanted to get out of there and we were 18th in the checkout line.
Oh well, if that's the worst that happened, we"re good. Lol.
Ugh the stores were crazy
Ugh the stores were crazy this week! And yes people were pushing and shoving, grabbing up the turkeys left and right, and slamming into each other's shopping carts. Such a display.
Oh well, exactly right if forgotten mashed potatoes and duck instead of turkey were the worst that happened we did pretty good.
At least it wasn't as bad as the 4th of July when I decided to make a cherry pie for DH...for the first time ever. (It's his favorite type of pie and in my defense, my family never made cherry pies as none else likes them) Well to make a long story short, I had an epic brain fart moment and made the pie out of drained maraschino cherries. (Don't ask. I have no idea what I was thinking.) It was the most expensive, sickeningly sweet abomination that ever graced my table and no one ate any (for obvious reasons).
Good on ya', AlmostGone834,
Good on ya', AlmostGone834, for not taking yourself too seriously and instead, providing a good laugh to us S.T. members (some of whom may need it more than others).
Coincidentally, my husband has asked me to make a cherry pie (instead of my usual mincemeat or apple) for a family get together next month. Why is it so impossible to find frozen cooking cherries?
Duck L'orange!!!
Yummmm!
We did one in Morocco out of huge Duck breasts.
I hope your enjoyed your TG Duck. Sounds like a new tradition!!!
It is a long time family joke
It is a long time family joke about the time I was making corned beef and cabbage for St. pattys day and forgot to cook the cabbage. Now every time my husband will say "are we having Corned beef and" he thinks it is hysterical
But in the end
NO SD. Really wantsend that hard. Easier next holiday. I can understand not want a recap of SD life and troubles.
Duck, Duck whos got the duck...
One year I mde duck with prune juice and it was yummy! We all like dark meat
And there were enough bathrooms...lol.
Glad you escaped from SD-lalaland.
I got to deal with Feral Forger SD24 and all her suckage. She told everyone she planned to go, and at the last minute her friend, errm, her RIDE (because no license and no car) bailed, so Husband "had" to organize a ride for her last minute after picking up SD17 Powersulk.
And then she proceeded to suck the air out of every room but the bathroom and garage. She said hello to me at the end of our visit, after busting in on all conversations people tried to have with PS and talking about herself in this loud, nasally, fake voice, and then showing off demanding to be taken fishing on MY and Husbands Boat...hahah thats a total show-boater, she doesnt even text or call her father. She just said it thinking it made her look cooler in front of her cousins. The wives/fiances really want to "integrate" and really happy that Feral Forger is so fake friendly. Because they feel they are succeeding. IDK.
Hopefully things go well this weekend with your mom. Take care of YOU.
