SD25 went to Las Vegas?!
This is unbelievable! I just learned that my SD, whose 2 children are living with DW and I because she doesn't want to take care of her own kids, went to Las Vegas to spend a week partying there with a friend last week. She has been staying with friends, moving from one to another, since she got kicked out of our house last month. So how could she fly to Vegas when she can't even afford to get an apartment for herself? It turns out her kids' father claims the kids on his tax return and got a $5000 refund. He said he would split it with her so she could have enough for a security deposit on an apartment. Instead, she spent $500 on round trip airfare, missed her flight because she was reportedly hung over and overslept, then went and spent another $500 for a one-way ticket to get there! And then spend who knows how much more of that money while she was out there. All while we are taking care of her kids. I am so furious with her!! I didn't think I could get any more angry, but she proved me wrong.
At least DW is as angry about this as I am, and also angry at the kids' father for giving her the money. It should have been given to us, since we are taking care of his sons most of the week.
We also learned that SD has been telling her friends that her mother won't give her her children, that is why she doesn't have them. DW sent her a text message saying "you know that's not true, you can come here and pick up your children any time you want to." Which of course got no response.
Any hope I had that SD would come to her senses once she was away from her kids for a couple of weeks and want to get her act together and take them back is fading fast.

I would contact IRS and report this fraud.

Contact the IRS and tell them that they live with you....
Well, they've only been
Well, they've only been living with us, with SD out of the house, for a month. So we have no claim for 2011 taxes. My SD and the kids were living in our house since last August, but SD was still, in theory anyway, their primary caretaker here. The stepgrandkids are with their father almost half the time (3 days a week). I guess they figured out that somehow he gets the bigger tax refund if he claims them.
(If you haven't already read it, see my thread in the Adult Stepchildren Issues forum titled "stepgrandchildren moving in" for more background.)
