The Aniki household is shrinking

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Some of you may recall that SS21 was 'banished' from the 'Ho house when he got sick almost 2 years ago.

He's been living with us ever since. Well, aside from the nights he spends with friends and all of the camping during warmer months. Anyhoo, SS21 has had a girlfriend over a year now and they've decided to move in together. They found a small house to rent that's close to their workplaces and can start moving in the day after Christmas.

I can't believe that chubby cheeked little dirt magnet I met 13 years ago is 21yo! After all we've been through - snooping, stealing (including BioHo's car!), fights at school - I certainly never thought SS would grow up to be such a blessing: kind, thoughtful, hardworking, fun, funny, and always willing to help. I'm going to miss cooking for him!

Speaking of cooking... sounds like a special breakfast is long overdue and a great way to kick off the new year. Let's hope 'Ho doesn't come a'knockin' because she doesn't know SS21 is moving out... *dirol*

It truly IS, ESMOD. I wasn't sure our marriage or DH's sanity would survive that chaos. SS21 has done a complete 180. It's amazing!

this is touching. Sounds like you saw the good in him despite the rough edges

special breakfast sounds nice

Lilly, I never imagined things would be like this 10 years ago. I'm astounded!

My OSS wasn't a big problem, compared to SD and YSS, but he had his share of hiccups.  Then there was the period when he moved back as a homeless adult struggling with alcohol.  Flash forward and at 60, he's our go-to man for our home maintenance.  He's thoughtful and brings us things we dont realuze we need (under cabinet lighting in the kitchen, "man toys" for DH)..  DH is depending on him more and I know he will always be there for us.

It's a miracle, like your SS.

JRI, I love reading that! SS21 is mechanically inclined. He has fixed up and sold 3 cars in less than 2 years. He and DH fixed MIL's brakes last weekend for less than $150 - would've cost her so much more at a garage! DH only has to ask and SS21 always says "sure". Smile

Starting a new home, they need so much stuff.  If you have a big family, a house warming party.  Or a trip to wakmart for everything .   I remember those days. They were tough, good I was young

Harry, we set them up pretty well with kitchen supplies, sheets, and bath towels. I gave them my old dining room table and 4 chairs that have been in storage. SS is taking his bed and GF has a bedroom set. They're starting off a lot better than we did when we moved out. And, of course, they're always welcome for dinner!

It is almost like children/teenagers thive in a stable home with boundaries and consequences.

I glad your SS is now a respectable young man.

Awe, bless your generous heart for keeping an open mind & open heart for your SS21 despite his shortcomings and a Bio-Ho in his ancestory. It is "Giving Tuesday" and you gave of yourself even when you didn't know what the outcome would be. That takes a big, generous heart. I admire your perserverence and aspire to do the same.

I really hoped that SD26 and SD24 would grow up and stop being drama diablas but alas, they are far past 21 and there is still little progress towards emotional maturity, kindness, or intelligence.

Meanwhile, SD24 didn't crash Thanksgiving as I had feared but ... I guess seeing all the photos of of our lovely event on social media reminded SD that DH's house is way more interesting, enjoyable and full of family than BM's lame existence. (SDiabla lives -rent free- with BM but of course she complains and is dissatisfied with BM's newly remote location after BM's recent move to the boondocks) Long story short ...

SD called DH to say that she wants to come around Christmas and then to our post-Christmas dinner that all the extended family will attend. That is not what I want because I want to enjoy Christmas with my DH and BK's without drama. I am hoping we can extend the extended family dinner to a later date so that SD comes after Christmas instead of before. I really don't want to deal with her trying to monopolize DH and complain about having to share the spotlight on Christmas morning or day.

Will keep you updated on how it goes ...

Elea, I always try to be optimistic. And it certainly isn't easy in the midst of step hell! TBH, even though 2 skids have no relationship with BioHo, I figure they will reconcile with her at some point. Which is why I will never say anything negative about 'Ho when the skids are anywhere near - not an easy task the last 2 years with SS21 living here! DH and I wait until he leaves or we are away from home before we discuss any 'Ho BS.

Hopefully, your SDs will grow up some day. SD27, for whatever reason, has always been desperate for 'Ho's approval and we cannot figure out why. She's constantly posting cheater-hating memes and messages on fakebook, knowing her mother is a serial cheater. But they act more like best friends than mother and daughter.

'Ho successfully PAS'd and step-PAS'd both SDs for a time, but they came to see the light a few years ago. I don't know if they ever apologized to DH (he'd never expect it), but both apologized to me on separate occasions. You never know.

It is good to hear your experience.

I have never and would never say a bad word about BM to SDiablas, not one word. I wouldn't want to hear my SM say negative things about my Mom so I try to follow "do unto others ... " in my life.
For a long time SDiablas would complain about her right in front of me which I found quite interesting (especially since they act just like her) but I guess they finally realize that sh*t talking their own Mom might not be the thing to do. Lately they thow a pity party for BM and make comments on how unfair life is for BM. That is when it is hardest to not say anything bad about her. No one in SD's family likes BM. No one says anything bad about BM to SK's but they also don't bring her up or care about what is happening in her life. That has made it easier to keep my mouth shut.

I have heard some freaking awful things about BioHo from the skids. They all know she's trash. But I've never agreed with them when they vented or said anything negative. The worst thing I've said about 'Ho to one of the kids is "I think she's unhappy and that comes out in her interactions with others." That isn't anything that can come back and bite me in the butt. Of course, it's quite a different story when DH and I discuss her. Wink

Maybe you should get the young couple a sage plant as a housewarming gift.  They are supposed to be good for warding off evil spirits so might also be useful for warding off BioHos.  If it doesn't work for that, it'll still be useful for making brown butter sage sauce for pasta.

TheAccidentalSM's picture

I'd completely forgotten that.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

We bought them kitchen supplies, sheets, and bath towels and I gave them my old dining room table and chairs.

They actually do not want any plants. GF has 2 cats who shred them.

SD30 and hubby are helping them move and SD told me she plans to sage the house. GF collects angels so I'm giving her one made of black tourmaline. Although I don't know if anything is capable of warding off BioHo...
