Fried Turkey.

Has anyone fried a turkey?

We bought a butterball indoor electric turkey fryer a few weeks ago. LOVE IT! We fried a chicken in it. Dressed it just like you would a turkey for frying and it was amazing.

I do have a question though. I just found out that there is going to be about 13 people at Thanksgiving day lunch. So I was going to fry a turkey and 2-3 chickens. I would get up early and fry the turkey and then a chicken and then another chicken and then another chicken. Can just keep using the same peanut oil for all of them or would I need to change it out in between? I am hoping to just be able to use the same oil all day over and over at least 4 times. Peanut oil is expensive!!

Has anyone fried more than one turkey in a day using the same oil?

Peanut oil should be able to be used all day. It's a good, multi-use oil, and since you're heating it up (or maintaining heat), you should be OK. I would change it after that day, though.

My husband got one last year for Christmas but we have yet to use it. We are going to Turkey bingo with BS and his buddy next door ( AKA my Jamiacan nephew) if we win one we will have an reason to use ours.

*Generally* peanut oil doesn't pick up other flavors, but the joke was punny!

At our family restaurant we changed the oil in the deep fryer every other day. Which according to some line cooks was apparently 'excessive'. I'd say you're fine with using the same oil all day. Fruit is right that the "turkey" flavoring may linger if that bothers you. Smile

I have to laugh at a few post on this blog. Fowl being one and punny being another. hahaha

Thanks all. How about if I fry the chickens first?

Fabulous stuff- we did it for several years. Reusing the oil is fine. Will you make french fries?

We won a turkey tonight at turkey bingo at bs''s school. Dh needs to find the turkey fryer at our storage unit so we can test ithe out. Our neighbor boy won a 25.00 gift card, we did pretty good tonight. Good excuse to fry a turkey.

We have an outdoor deepfryer...we just tried this out over the weekend.

We are re-using the oil. We had to use 5 gallons of peanut oil!!!!

We were doing a practice run for thanksgiving. Glad we did! We had no idea we would need 5 gallons of oil...also we over cooked it a bit, so we have to adjust temp. Ive never had fried turkey..it was pretty awesome.
