A Holy Crap moment.

SS12's BM Was feeding DH a line about how she may have cancer. If she does I am sorry. No one should have to go through that. But then she dropped this huge brick! If she does she wants to sign ove all rights so that I ca adopt SS12! I am trying not to get my hopes up. But having her disappointments out of his life would make things so much easier for him. :jawdrop:

Obviously she WANTS to be able to adopt her SS. Not sure what that has to do with her DH parenting or not.

Not sure where the negative comments are coming from. Of course I don't wish cancer on your BM, but if she does have it and there can be a silver lining for you and your family, then I wish you the best.

I don't know if she elaborated, but she may have be going through something that I went through last year. A biopsy. The cancer I was tested for runs on both sides of my family, it scared the crap out of me. Fortunately, my tests came back negative.

She may have to have a biopsy, is scared and probably going through a mental checklist of her options.

BM does not need to sign over her rights to you in order for you to adopt in the event of her death. If she does have cancer (hopefully not, I wouldn't wish cancer on my worst enemy), and passes away, then later on you and your H can file paperwork so you can (if that is what you want) become your SS's adoptive mother.

A word of caution, if you adopt, you will become his parent and financially responsible for him.

HRNYC - There have been times where a SF or SM adopted their skid. Usually in cases of marrying a widow/widower or the other bio-parent passing away. This has nothing to do with if the living bio-parent is able to parent the kids or not. It has to do with being the only bio-parent and realizing if they die as well, their child will not have any parents around at all.

I assuming this happens more with very young skids, than with teenage skids.
