It's a vagina, not a clown car

Living the dream's picture

Has anybody else heard of that Duggar family with the reality TV show?

There was a link to an article about them on a major news site today. I clicked it by accident, unfortunately. It seems they are famous for one thing: having 19 kids.

Perhaps I'm extra sensitive because that's the only thing the BM I work to help support has seemingly accomplished: pushing people from her vagina.

I think she has had more than 19 now. But at least this family can afford the kids. I say have as many as you want if you can support them! Problem now is with her age there is more risks for birth defects.

They can afford them only because of the TV show. They have the TV show only because they have so many kids. They can afford so many kids only because of the TV show. They have the TV show only because....woops, the record is stuck, the logic is broken.

Living the dream's picture

That's the impression I got from reading the article, also. They are famous for having a lot of kids, which has earned them a lot of money, which allows them to afford to keep having more kids.

Are they Mormon? For some reason I had thought they were. 20 years from now imagine how many more of them there will be! Then they will keep growing exponentially from there!

Actually, they made some pretty smart investments BEFORE the TV show. They were noticed because of their children (16 when the show first started, I think) but they don't have children because of the show.

Jim Bob was a state rep, and they own several businesses. They're also very thrifty - shopping second hand and not using credit. They have no debt, and they built their house themselves. Or they started too, the show got picked up and they got some assistance with finishing it.

I don't agree with their religion (Quiverful?) but I respect the hell out of anyone that can make a family that large work the way it does.

They had most of the children prior to having a TV show. This family, prior to having a TV show, own their businesses and rental properties. They did not make their money because of the show. The show may supplement their income, but that's it.

It may be helpful to take the opinions of other people, especially those expressed anonymously on an anonymous online forum, much less seriously than you do.

I agree with the clown car sentiment.

I find it disgusting that she had so many children. Too many uber-religious people take that stupid scripture to heart about go out into the world and multiply.

Our bodies were not made to reproduce like little baby factories, on right after another. It takes two years for a woman's body to fully recover from childbirth.

My parents attended a church where the pastor and his wife had thirteen fricking children. After I picked up my jaw from the floor, I asked my mother if we still lived in the 20th century. She responded with "They said God will tell them when to stop having kids." I looked and her and laughed and said "Okay...so will that happen? When her uterus falls out and trails behind her like a dog on a leash?"

My mother walked away from me.

LMFAO! Thanks for making my day! Blum 3

Her body - her uterus.

They seam like a solid family.

I just find the title of this post so funny. I am working late and it made me laugh. Thanks!

I like the Duggars.
They have raised intelligent, respectful, and accomplished kids. All their kids play violin or piano, the older girls have a successful book, their older son now has his own business, one of the older girls is a midwife etc
They built their own home and paid for it as they built. They have always lived a debt-free life long before the show.
I seriously hate people criticizing them for the number of kids they have. There are people everywhere, including this site, that can't manage to raise even one intelligent, respectful, successful kid, let alone 19.
I wish I had raised my kids as well as they have raised theirs. I think the fact that they are Christians, along with a bit of jealousy gives people the ok to ridicule and mock them and think it's ok.

"I think the fact that they are Christians, along with a bit of jealousy gives people the ok to ridicule and mock them and think it's ok."

The article I read made no mention of their religion, not that it would be of any interest to me, and you have my word that I don't secretly wish that I had 19 children.

JustAgirl42's picture

Lighten up, we're just kidding around. Although, I do think 19 is going a little overboard! }:)

mashed.potatoess's picture

Hmm I wonder if the tv only shows the kids on their best behavior. Damn right 19 kids is unusual. Usual doesn't mean I send them hate mail. No way am I jealous of 19 kids

Living the dream's picture

I would suspect that the TV show (which I admit I haven't seen) would be heavily edited to show the best behavior.

JustAgirl42's picture

Warning: This may be inappropriate, but I can't help but wonder if sex is still satisfying after shootin' out THAT MANY kids!! :O (Talk about loose...)

JustAgirl42's picture

'hot dog' down a hallway' HAHAHAHA!

I just had to explain to my FDH what I was laughing at!

JustAgirl42's picture

I'll have to second this.

And, I'm a very nice person. Wink

Agree. I dont think the kids get to be kids.

I had a lot of responsibility growing up. I think it was good in that it taught me a lot of life skills and I am able to manage my life sucessfully. But at the same time, I never got to be a kid. I was taking on grown up stuff way before I should have been.

I wonder if they would keep having that many kids, if the oldest kids didnt help out as much.

zerostepdrama's picture

My exact thought too!

With that many kids, there is no way that the parents can actual raise and nuture their kids. Its the oldest siblings who are doing majority of the work.

Bringing up a parallel situation: I think polygamy is wrong. Am I supposed to like it because it's what they believe in? Too bad I don't. Still think it's wrong. Do people who practice polygamy support their children on their own? Well from what I see on tv they do...who knows.

mashed.potatoess's picture

That's a LOT of time pregnant. Does she have custody of any? Wondering how that works for her

To each their own. They are able to support such a large family and they were wealthy before the TV show. It's a better show with at least morals to it unlike shows like 16 and pregnant.

The only thing I have to say about the Duggars is this....

I hope that if I am ever on an airplane that crashes, the Duggar mom is sitting next to me, I will hold on to her ankles and use her as a parachute.

zerostepdrama's picture

I agree about the emotional support. There is no way in hell she can give the kids what they need, give her husband what he needs (emotionally) and still give herself what she needs.

I remember reading somewhere that she always gives her DH sex when he asks for it. She never has a "headache." Ummmm k.....

Check out No Longer Quivering, Homeschoolers Anonymous and Love Joy Feminism if you want to get an understanding and critic of their beliefs.

I don't know much about them but I don't like their adherence to the concept of stay at home daughters.

FMSL's picture

Even with 19 kids, I still bet their life has less drama than people who have just 1 skid.
