Dear Valued Users,
It's with a heavy heart that we announce the permanent closure of StepTalk.org on August 31st, 2025.
This decision wasn't an easy one. For over twenty years, StepTalk has been a source of support for stepparents around the world! However, over the years, the costs associated with maintaining and upgrading the site to remain secure, meet current standards and maintain availability have become unsustainable.
We are incredibly grateful for your support, contributions and the community you've helped us build. Your engagement has made StepTalk.org a special place and we cherish the memories and connections made here.
We would especially like to thank Aniki for volunteering to be a moderator and for caring so much.
Thank you for being a part of our journey and we wish you all the best.
Sincerely,
Dawn and The StepTalk Team

Well this is another area
Well this is another area where my SD8 has improved immensely. In previous years she just takes every mailer that comes through the door, circles everything, and expects it to arrive on Christmas. This year so made a list. She even added a "How are you?" to Santa! And her list is awesome. A chemistry set, a bow and arrow... We're also getting her a small tablet this year (NOT a iPad). I'm actually excited for Christmas.

All the skids ever want are dolls. Barbie, Monster High, etc... So freaking boring if you ask me.

Hmmmm... the 6 year old wants an I Pad or BM wants an IPad??? :?
Although I am guilty... BS4 got an IPad last year for Christmas but in my defense he really only uses it for educational apps and watching movies from time to time. Last week he picked it up for the first time in about 6 months... oh well I guess it's something he'll be able to use for at least a couple years to come.
with that said though, I would NEVER purchase something like that and let it leave my home (i.e go to BMs) Please, for the love of pete, don't let your DH go down that road!

My SD got an iPod touch for her 4th birthday, an iPad mini for her 5th birthday, and a full-sized iPad for her 6th birthday (all from BM and her boyfriend). It's ridiculous.
ETA: Last year her Christmas gift from us was a family trip to Disneyland. After we told her that, she said, "I think you guys should take me on a trip every year for Christmas." It made me not want to take her on any more trips at all.

My DH and I took our kids on a trip last year for Christmas and they all said, "we want to do this EVERY year!" We thought it was fantastic. Now we no longer have to shop, wrap, stress...we take the family on a trip and it's done. Maybe your SD meant it in the way that she gets "things" at BM's but taking a trip with her family is more fun. That's how my kids all look at it. And I'd rather spend the money on a family trip where we are all together making memories than a bunch of crap that will be tossed aside in a few months, or become obsolete in six, or that they don't even remember. The kids started asking about the trip already in September..they are excited and haven't mentioned to either DH or I ANY type of gift they are hoping they get (at the other parents' house).

I believe that kids under the age of 10, or so, being given technology, especially when it's expensive, is ridiculous. Sorry, but that's my opinion.
