What is an appropriate term for an adult offspring ? "Adult children" seems a contradiction in terms.

What is an appropriate term for offspring once they reach adulthood ? The only term I hear is "Adult children". This seems a contraction in terms. It almost justifies enabling parenting behaviour patterns to continue through to the adult years and beyond.... It also keeps the offspring forever "childlike" and dependent and in some cases, feeling forever entitled to their parents full and undivided attention. Anyone got thoughts on this ?

I don't think it's too weird...mainly when talking to someone else. Like, so-and-so has adult children. Vs assuming they are minors. Eh.

My mom will often say TO someone, I have 4 kids, all adults. Because of their age she could easily still have minor children yet the youngest is 29! Smile And my mom still calls me her "baby girl".

depends on if u're on good terms with them!

when skids grow up, i'll probably be like my grandmother, who still refers to her middle-aged sons as "the boys". my mother refers to us collectively as "my kids".

OP, on here when you hear "adult children" yes it is contradictory, but the posters who use that term usually are emphasizing the fact that they are actual adults, but act/think or are treated as children.

"Child" has more than one definition. It can refer to someone's offspring (adult or otherwise) or it can refer to a minor.
