O.T/ Taking dogs on road trips
In two weeks we are going to take the 6 hour drive to my sister's house for thanksgiving. We are going to be gone a few days and my regular sitter will be out of town I wouldn't leave her alone with them for that long anyways because I know she has her own life. So we are going to load up the four of us plus the two dobermans and the jack russel pup. the dobermans love to ride in the car but I'm trying help the pup get use to it. He is still healing a little from being neutered this morning and I don't want him to think getting in the car means going to the vet so when he feels better I am going to drive him around a bit, take him to the park, and give him a nice treat everytime he gets in the car. Drive him around to different parks and take him walking around different parts of the neighborhood so he can be familiar with peeing in differnt places. When we go on or trip I am going to stop every thirty minutes to let them out to strectch and pee and to alternate the two dobermans and the pup from the doggie seat belts to the carrier so that they all have a a chance to seat between SD15 and DD6 and be spoiled and the pup won't have to feel scared being around the dobermans for so long.

No tips on traveling with dogs from me. We are leaving our Shih Tzu with friends this year b/c DH's mom does not want a dog in her house and that's where we are staying. Can't say I blame her.

We always travel (usually 3 hour trips) in the car with our dog and she is fine. When she was younger we'd stop every hour to let her out for a pee, but now we just stop once, and to be honest she doesn't need this - it's more for me.
We always make sure we have a chewy thing for her - usually a rawhide treat - that she will chew on to stop from getting bored. And when we have the comfort break we always offer her water in a bowl, as travelling seems to make them thirsty.

Same .. my dogs all travel well. We give them something to chew on after the windows lose their appeal, but that's really it. We don't stop at all unless the trip exceeds 4 hours or if we're stopping for ourselves.
