LOL It's not just me
Recap: YSS did not ask permission to have a computer in his room. YSS got said computer taken away until such time as we return it.
New: Last night was the first time he has been at the house in the two weeks since the above occurred. DH told me when I got home that YSS had something to ask both of us and DH told him to ask us together at dinner so we could both give an answer, rather than spring it on one of us. DH said he didn't want me left out of the request. He never mentioned the request. I asked if he knew the request. Yes, he knows the request. So then I asked how it wouldn't be "sprung" on me and I wasn't left out if I'm the only one who doens't know ahead of time the topic of discussion? DH told me after I explained it two more ways. (Still cannot believe that it wasn't obvious it would be sprung on me and I was left out of the loop if he knew because YSS already asked but didn't give me a heads-up on the topic.)
YSS was allowed to have his computer back to do homework since it's finals week. Fine. The deal was he had to turn in the hard drive when he was done. YSS left this morning and the hard drive was not turned in. I reminded DH. We went into YSSs room.
Now, I got to that point in the story when I was recounting this to a coworker this morning (who only knows a recap and isn't privy to all the step family details). Before I could continue he said: "And it wasn't the same hard drive, was it?"
And it wasn't. DH doesn't believe me, of course. They are two very different models of hard drive. I told DH that not believing me doesn't mean it's not true, and perhaps given all the other times he's told me I'm wrong when it turns out I'm right, he should leave the door open to the possibility. And it wasn't like I was mentioning punishment, I was observing it was not the same one.
Funny that another dad jumped to the answer and totally believes a kid would swap out a hard drive.

Wait, I'm confused. What will
Wait, I'm confused. What will swapping out the hard drives get him?
It is like
It is like keeping 2 sets of books. The public one for show and the real one that you don't want anyone to see what you are really doing.
Dead right
I’m sure one has all sorts of gaming stuff and the other is probably old and almost bare.
But I thought he couldn't
But I thought he couldn't have any kind of computer in his room? Not questioning anything, just truly confused.
We allow it on requesr
We have allowed it on request and only for the evening and only to do homework. Since it’s finals week it fit the parameters.
But it’s just getting laughable now (hysterical almost ready for a padded room laughable) how much DH turns a blind eye. He can’t ever believe they’ve done something wrong.
(And he accused me of making DS out to be “the golden child” —ha! If anyone is the golden child it’s YSS. If anyone gets out of chores or gets the most benefit of the doubt it’s YSS.)
I would take the whole
I would take the whole computer and it shall not return for a very long time. I don't tolerate manipulation. But I am pretty strict like that.
