Sleuthing
I have been sleuthing because I need to know what exH's current place of employment is for CS purposes. I know that last year he was fired and had gotten a new job but he would not give me the requested information. Today I remembered that anyone can call and do an employment verification as long as they have the SSN of the individual. I used to answer and transfer these calls all the time. I narrowed it down to the places he could be working within a certain diamater of his home, acted super professional and made a few employment verification calls. Within 10 minutes I got everything I needed to know including the Date of Hire.
Just an FYI for anyone needing this tip.

When DH changed jobs, NY
When DH changed jobs, NY found out and had sent the slip to garnish wages within a week (he wasn't trying to hide employment, just a job change). I'm surprised all states don't have that kind of tracking ability
This is information for the
This is information for the initial paperwork. I'm entering our CO in a new state and the CO has not been enforced for a long time. Knowing this info will get things rolling faster.
Yikes. I'm glad you are able
Yikes. I'm glad you are able to move forward with support, but I'm not sure if you should tell them how you obtained the information.
Different states have different laws in regards to stalking and you may have unknowingly broke the law.
My lawyer told me to do some
My lawyer told me to do some "discovery" so I did. When I called all I said was, "I need to verify employment." They asked for his social and then gave me all the info I needed to know. He's the last person I'd want to stalk and after this is all set up and filed I could honestly care less about what he's doing.
Ok.
Ok.
If you tried that at my company
They would tell you to send in your aurthorization letter. No way would they give out anything over the phone to anyone. Too much identify theft going around.
Employers give out this
Employers give out this information all the time. I worked closely with HR in my previous job and they got these calls almost everyday. If you have their name/social you can get the information. Basically the verification is just confirming that you work where you say you work, how long you worked there, your job title/duties and rate of pay. The information is limited and you have to already know a lot about a person to even make the call.
Anytime you submit a resume or apply for a loan your employer will get an employment verification call. Never heard of an authorization letter for employment verification.
Typically you submit authorization form before you are able to
to obtain this information. I would never give this information out over the phone, good thing an idiot answered the phone.
The bank or other person
eWill ask the employee to sign an authorization letter. If you are in a hurry, as I have been, you walk the signed letter over to HR yourself.
My firm will not confirm pay unless they have signed aurthorization from the employee or a subpoena.
Haha!
Haha!
We just had a new hire. I recognized the last name (it is unusual) and did a little digging. Yep- he is the father of one of my daughter's best friends. He has been working under the table and avoiding CS for years, I had watched this mom struggle raising the 2 girls on her own for years with no help. I messaged the mom and told her we just hired him and to have DCSE fax me the paperwork ASAP. I had CS pulled from his very first check!
BWHAHA that's awesome! Good
BWHAHA that's awesome! Good job lady.
I am not H/R expert but that seems like some type of
confidentialty breach on your part. It runs in the same line of being in the medical record field and looking up information on someone and sharing it with others.
Place and status of
Place and status of employment is not protected information. HIPPA laws are.
I work in HR and we would
I work in HR and we would never release this information over the phone. The only thing we would verify over the phone is if someone is employed at the company or not. Certainly not their rate of pay.
I think if your ex got wind of this he would have cause to get the employee who released this info terminated, or at least written up.
Well I aint' telling him.
