Revelation
I've come to the realization that I am keeper of my disabled SD25's child spirit. I am not going to try to make her more independent, or behave like an adult...or complain that she isn't...because she is not an adult and never will be. Plus, I have no influence over her in that way anyway.
I am going to honor her child-like qualities. I am going to help her to have the best life she can.

This brought tears to my eyes. I am so happy for you that you are finding your peace with your SD. Being a step parent is the hardest role I play in life. Being a step parent to a special needs person must be so challenging.
I have a special needs nephew. He is the most adorable little guy I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Happy all of the time. You would never know he has so many medical issues.

Thank you. I just made a forum post that is the opposite of this one...frustrated and bitchy. Can't be at my best all the time, but this is a good reminder. She's not loving or happy, she's entitled and quietly demanding, but there is no changing it, so I can only try to support her and DH as much as possible.
