"I had a rough day"
These were the first words out of my six year old SD's mouth when I walked in the door yesterday. I was a little surprised because up until recently she has been my little ball of sunshine but since visits have stopped (even though I rejoice inside for our situation) she has been a little storm cloud. No fits or tantrums, just very teary eyed at every turn. So of course, I think she got into trouble.
Turns out the gym teacher, her favorite teacher, lost her husband over the weekend, he was 30, It was a terrible situation and I am a little sketchy on the details but what should have been a routine injury led to a surgery and a death. The teacher has a two year old and baby on the way.
I hugged SD6 tight and told her that I was proud of her because she has such a good heart. An hour later SS3 comes out to the living room and informs me we have to buy him new clothes, (we just bought him a bunch of new clothes for when he starts preschool) so I look at him perplexed, "Well, SD6 says my clothes have to go to the baby."
Thoroughly confused I go downt he hall to the bedroom and sure enough there is SD6 bagging up all of SS3's clothes because the gym teacher's new baby is going to be a bow. It took everything I had not to burst into tears and laughter simultaneously. After an hour of her helping me put everything back on hangers and in the closet, I explained to her that those clothes will be too big for the new baby, but that if she wanted, when we go to visit gma and gpa this weekend we can go back to the special store (the gently used kids clothing store) and pick up a bunch of outfits she can take to her teacher.
My God some days these kids just slay me.

She has compassion and that
She has compassion and that should be rewarded and encouraged...Good for you...Follow through it will make her feel better...
Both my stepkids lack compassion and I am sure the divorce caused it and it was not encouraged...Congrats that yours has it...

They are good, no great kids.
They are good, no great kids. But they are young. Yesterday SD6 told me that she was going to live with us forever because if she had to move out when she goes to college she will miss me too much. Told SO I should have recorded that when she hates me as a teenager.
