It's finally DONE!
After 3 trips to the courthouse, a two hour orientation, 3 hours of mediation DH FINALLY got what he was asking for in Mediation today!
DH's Old Schedule:
1,3,5th weekends Saturday 9am - Sunday 6pm
2,4th weekends Sunday 9am - 6pm
Wednesdays 6-8pm
Plus a pretty normal holiday schedule except that it didn't allow for his weekend visits to be extended if there was a Monday or Friday holiday
DH's New Schedule:
1,3,5th weekends Friday 5pm - Sunday 7pm
Wednesdays 5pm - Thursday mornings when school begins
Extended Holiday visits - If a Friday Holiday, then p-up Thursday at 5pm, if a Monday Holiday, then drop off on Monday at 7pm
This is VERY CLOSE to exactly what DH was asking for. The only thing he didn't get was Sunday overnights, he has to have them back by 7pm instead.
All in all it was a win for DH! As a bonus, my bio kids' dad is changing jobs and will finally have weekends off. We talked about changing our schedule and we have agreed (without fighting and/or going to court) that he will have our boys on the 2,4,5th weekends. Guess what that means.....
1st & 3rd Weekends = 4 kids
5th Weekends = 2 kids
2nd & 4th Weekends = 0 kids
That means that TWO WEEKENDS OUT OF EVERY MONTH DH AND I ARE KID-FREE!!! When we first blended our families I NEVER thought that would happen!
DH said the mediator was pretty harsh on BM for a couple of reasons.
1)She admitted that she lives off the government/food stamps and CS. Mediator reminded her (rather firmly) that she has a duty to financially support her children.
2)BM kept stating during mediation that she is the "primary parent". Mediator reminded her that in the eyes of the court that there is no "Primary Parent" and the DH and BM have equal rights to both children.
3)BM said at one point "So, he gets to come in here and walk away with everything he wants" mediator asked her if that was what this was about to her - someone winning and someone losing and who had more power/control over the kids. She told her that this is supposed to be about the kids and them spending time with both of their parents.

Congratulations!!! I'm in the process of writing notes for dh modification of parenting schedule. He too is asking for more time. Our bm has no problem with it, and is actually encouraging the modification. We hope to have it complete by september. Did your dh cs get reduced as well?
