Am I just being overly protective?
My dh doesn't understand my wanting to make this drive with my bio son. Quick background, my son, though 20 in November, only got his DL after completing bootcamp when he was 18. He really doesn't have alot of driving experience. He wasn't one of the teens dead set on getting a car and everything at 16 like many are. Last year at the end of November he bought his jeep, first vehicle he's ever owned, and a week later had to fly back to Norfolk va. Where he's stationed. He's getting back from deployment today and will be coming home on leave this month and is going to drive his jeep back to Norfolk. We are in Oklahoma so this will be a very long drive. He will probably be actually driving more miles in this one trip then he has total before this. I'm a nervous wreck about him making that drive alone and I think my son kinda is too because he suggested me and my bd take the trip with him. My dh doesn't want us to go and doesn't understand my wanting to go. I even asked him if it was his daughter wouldn't he want to go and he said no. Am I being overly protective in this matter?

I would go. How many
I would go. How many opportunities are you going to have to take a road trip with your son, especially with him being in the military. Maybe he's using the 'excuse' of wanting someone to drive with as a way to actually be able to spend time with his family. Most young adults won't actually admit to wanting to spend time with their "mommy's".
I think you have every right to be concerned. People drive like maniacs, whether its in town or on a highway. It's always rush rush rush, but for what?
I would go, too.... maybe b/c

My SS18 just started a new
My SS18 just started a new job this week. Yesterday he had to drive a straight truck into Chicago to help his boss pick up products for the store. When DH told me this on Monday night, I had some concerns. Has SS ever driven a straight truck before? Is he really ready to handle a trip like this into the city? Is the boss sure he wants to give SS this responsibility after only 1 day of work? DH assured me that SS is a good driver and it wouldn't be a problem. SS got up at 4am on his own and headed to work. He drove the truck on the expressway and then backed into more than 10 loading docks throughout the morning. Apparently I was concerned over nothing.
I think it's natural for you to be worried. Maybe you could pack him a goody back filled with snacks for the trip or load his iPod with some upbeat music that will keep him company on the road. I'm sure he'll have a safe trip.

++++++++++++++++
Maybe he just wants to hang with his mom and sister...? I would go.
Thanks for the input
Thanks for the input everyone. My main concern is his lack of experience driving. As for music, he informed me he's got about 12 gig on his iPhone lol so no worries there. I also just bought him an emergency roadside kit to keep in his jeep so he would have everything he could possibly need if he does ever break down somewhere. He might just be wanting the time with me and his sis. I met my dh like a week before my son went to boot camp so things haven't been what he is used to at home since he left for bc. My son and I have always been close and I've always talked straight with him instead of hiding my head in the sand and just hope that he makes the right decisions. Being a male, I knew the chances were high that he would have sex before adult hood, so instead of constantly telling him not to and hope for the best, I stressed why I felt he shouldn't but that if he was going to anyways he better be protected and if he couldn't get anything that I would buy them. He has always felt comfortable talking with me on problems he's had too. With him I was actually able to succeed in being both a parent and friend. I'm hoping it can be that way with my daughter but so far it's not looking good lol.
