I cant decide....not ready to let go...
My BD16, graduated this past May. She will turn 17 in September. Her 17th birthday will be on the first day of college.
When we enrolled her for college, I had told her that she was staying home and would make the drive. Its 35-45 minutes from home.
Since we have spent a few days at the college this past summer and letting her make the drive, I have realized that its to much time on the road for her. If it takes her 45 minutes to get there then fighting for a parking space and getting to class,, she would need to leave around 7 every morning to make her 8 o clock class.
She has some friends that have rented an apartment and they have asked her move in with them.
UUUGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Im not ready for this! What do I do...Am I wanting to keep her home because she is to young and I dont want to let her go,, YES!! The college is like its own resort with all kinds of things for her to enjoy and I want her to utilize all of that but if she is driving back and forth to home every day,,,, whats the best thing for her.... I cant decide!

As hard as it is you need to
As hard as it is you need to let her go. But, me I would call everyday. She seems young to me to go, but she is obviously smart and probably mature. Good luck. Curiously did you have her skip a grade? I just ask because I didn't allow it for my son and sometimes, question my decision.
She skipped her junior year.
She skipped her junior year. She only needed one credit to graduate early so she did an online summer course to get that credit. And yes she is very mature, independant and strong kid. She has amazed me!
For some reason it posted
For some reason it posted twice. Sorry.
Good Idea! Thanks!
Good Idea! Thanks! Privledge....I can work with that if she can.
They do say most college
They do say most college students are successful on campus or near campus. She is entering the pre-nursing program and her schedule this year is full. She is hoping to enter the nursing school the last semester of her sophmore year so she is taking some additional labs. I guess you guys answered my question,,, my baby is moving out! Sniff Sniff!
awwww....I know it's hard,
awwww....I know it's hard, but you know it's best to let her spread her wings! You know she'll do fine, she's very mature and responsible.... you've done well mama!
Oh, I could not do it at all.
Oh, I could not do it at all. Not at 17. And barely 17 at that. Is it even legal?
I guess I don’t see 45 minute drive as such a big deal. I drive a little less than that to work every day and my daughter drives about that to college every day.
You have a very smart and bright child. But she is still a child. I guess she will actually be 16 when she moves out…? Way to young to start living away from home at college. JMHO.
