ugly photographs
BM's boyfriend is a "professional" photographer. Every gift-giving holiday (Xmas, DH's birthday, Father's Day) BM sends the kids over with HUGE photos that he has taken of them. These photos are hideous, and in ugly frames. More annoyingly, though, they are all set inside her home, in her living room, in front of her fireplace... The kids expect these photos to go up in our apartment. I do not want that! Currently, I hide them and everyone forgets but eventually I'm going to have to deal with this head-on. Any suggestions?
On a side note, she also sends framed copies of these hideous photos to DH's parents and DH's brother (wtf???). DH's parents of course put the photos everywhere in their home, so I am forced to look at these photos everywhere that I go.
I would love to have DH tell her that we don't need photos anymore, but he'll never do it because he is really scared of rippling the waters with her. He has no issue rippling my waters.

Do they have a room in your house? Why not hang them in their room?

Ohhh...good suggestion! Go
Ohhh...good suggestion! Go buy some nice frames - you can even get decent ones at the dollar store - and make a wall out of it in their room. One that you can't see from the doorway preferably!

well at least they are big,
well at least they are big, so you can claim that you dont have room...just tell skids that you will save them for them for when they are older and want them.....tell them they are in safe keeping, most likely they will not care and then when they are old enough they will see that they are horrible and insist that you throw them out...can you take them to get better ones?
Or, what you could do, is
Or, what you could do, is let the kids make a scrapbook out of them. And give them photos of them with your DH and you so they can have a collective book of memories. That way it's special for them and you don't have to have the burden of "enjoying" them.
that's a good idea -- these
that's a good idea -- these things are too big for a scrapbook, though. maybe i can tell dh to tell her that the photos are too big and can they send small ones if they insist on sending them (and then i can drop them in a book out of the way).
yeah, we have tons of great
yeah, we have tons of great photos of the kids all over our house taken by photographer friends/family, so it definitely isn't a issue of them not being represented visually.
i'd put them in their rooms, but i think they would really bother me, even there -- they are so big and the rooms are so small, it would feel like all you can see are these giant ugly photos. I think the issue is more having photos of the inside of her home imposed into my life -- we have our OWN life with the kids, and our own photos from that life, and we don't need hers!
i'll definitely save them. maybe the kids can pick one among the smaller ones and put them in their rooms.
am i nuts, or would this bother you too? sometimes i think she is just sending them to continue her control campaign (telling us constantly what the kids want to eat, drink, do -- even though we have them 50% of the time and know quite well how to deal with them!)
i did not know you can scan
i did not know you can scan smaller! brilliant! thank you.
i don't have photos of the
i don't have photos of the skids in my home at all....... i may have at one time, until i bought our new house and sil gives framed photo of skids to dh to put on HIS mantle (kinda behind my back) -- so that made me MAD MAD MAD --- it has disappered since... and unless someone knows your decor, where do they get off sending BIG frames...
but i love the idea of scrap booking it..... that way you acknowledge it, but it's not in your face......... you guys are just incredible!
i understand that -- i
i understand that -- i really do. we have mainly photos of the skids in our home, but at least that are ones that i've selected and feel are appropriate.
yeah, scrapbooking is such a
yeah, scrapbooking is such a good call. love these boards.
honestly, some of these things are so big that i can't put my arms around them. massive. in one, he used photoshop so that it looks like psychadelic multicolored glittery rainbows are coming out of the back of sd's head. so when i say ugly, i mean...ugly. very.
