Travel Time to School

Does anyone here have the skids overnight on a school night? If so, how far away do you live from their school?

DH has requested Sunday and Wednesday overnights which he used to have through mutual agreement with his ex. BM took it away back in summer of 2008 because she got pissy about something and decided they needed to go "by the papers" after 6 years of doing it the way they were. DH filed a petition to modify back to what they have always done but we have moved since then and he no longer lives right down the street from their school. She is saying that we live too far away and it would be 'harmful' to the kids to have to commute 20 miles to school 6-7 days per month.

Any thoughts on if what he's requesting is reasonable or is she right, is this too much?

20 miles? I'm sorry but that is not to far at all, I had to take a bus to school further than that simply because it was the only school around. Yes it is going to be extra gas money and time however, if he still wants to take them to school then I don't see why the BM (other than her being an ass) should have an issue with it.

Well that's what I thought but I grew up in the country. Smile

She's complaining the won't get enough sleep, blah, blah, blah. Bedtime on a school night here for kids is 9pm, they would have to get up at 6 and leave by 7. That still gives them plenty of sleep for their age (they are 12 & 11).

We are having to take it in front of a judge now to be decided by him. I think we have a pretty strong case but I'm still nervous about it.

my dh lives about 20 miles from sd's school. he wants to start having her some overnights during the week as well (not a court order yet though) I definitely dont think it's too far. Its a small town, so its not like there will be alot of traffic either, so hopefully a judge will grant it and for you guys too!

We have the skids on school nights, but we live in the same school district as BM and only live like 6 blocks from her. If you are willing to take them back and forth to school, then I don't think it's unreasonable. Good luck!!
