As Predicted

Chef had a tantrum.   We were at a Mardi Gras parade and we went to a bar for a few drinks.   Chef claims that I "got drunk, said mean stuff and was hitting him."  Um no.  He had just finished listening to a Bill Burr routine about women hitting men the day before and some how projected it onto me.  Somehow I was managing to catch lots of beads with my left hand (I'm very right handed) so I was definitely not drunk!

Somehow we got on the topic of bad behavior as a kid.

What I DID say is if he were my child I wouldn't have tolerated his often crazy behavior like his mother did.   As I've often said on this forum, his older parents were probably exhausted after that many kids/marriages and gave up parenting Chef.

He admitted he was a PITA kid and routinely picked on his older brothers.  I merely brought out that the immature behavior from being a spoiled baby of the family often carries over to adulthood.

So we took two days to drive down here and he's having a tantrum saying "we should go back home tomorrow. "

Um no.  I have a lot of things planned and I'm not going to spoil it after months of planning.   So if the shoe's on the other foot and I annoy him, he sure doesn't hold back from telling me.  I told him so and that he is FAR too quick to take offense.

Hey, thinkthrice,

If even one of those drinks was a 'hand grenade', you may have been hitting Chef without realizing it. I foolishly had two of those killers on my first trip to Mardi Gras and was barely able to walk out of the bar. In any case, if you DID lay a beating on Chef, he probably deserved it! Aggressive

Mmmm, those hand grenades are sooo tasty. Too tasty - you don't even realize how much alcohol you're consuming!

Just a bloody mary and a vodka tonic.  I'm not big on sweet drinks.   Chef, on the other hand, had about 4 strong beers and several bourbons.  He had a funny look on his face that I know very well and doesn't make eye contact when he's "hurt."

We were there rather early so we were the only people there on this 2nd flr bar.  You had to pay in advance for a wrist band to get in.  Chef was also engaging the bartender in conversation so Im pretty sure said bartender would have noticed if I was getting physical with Chef.

I did poke him with my index finger on his wrist but that was while emphasizing a point in conversation.    Up to that point he had practically shoved me into a line of people before we went in in an effort to get his first drink.

And then after a fairly long walk back to the hotel, Chef had his tantrum, then passed out on the sofa bed.

the mantrum's get on my nerves.  Like I said DH tried that complaining version of the tantrum when were there 2 weeks ago.  I shut that shiz DOWN.  I was not about to deal with that when this was my bucket trip to New Orleans..

Happy Mardi Gras....  a day late.  Smile

But hopefully you had some fun! I watched news vids of some of the parades. Ive been there a few times, and yes, LOTS of fun to be had there.

Glad you are standing firm and not giving into the Mangina.

I would love to visit New Orleans and I'm sorry Chef is acting like a lunatic cry baby and accusing you of things you didn't do after getting himself smashed. Hopefully today things are better and smoothed over and you're enjoying yourselves. I bet the food is amazing there! I would love to see the French quarter, the cemeteries, and maybe a visit to the bayou.

The food is amazing! Gumbo, Jambalya, Shrimp Ettoufee. Fresh oysters from the muddy mississippi, bananas foster. Im drooling just thinking about it.

To this day, upon occassion, when we have had a few drinks and in the midst of a deep solve the worlds problems conversation DW will re-take a offense to something I said when she was in her late teens/early 20s.   I told her, long ago, that sometimes when she has had a couple of drinks her conversations will take on beligera t tones.

She did not like that.  We have both matured in the nearly 3 decades since then. But... she will re-float that long ago comment upon occassion.

What I referred to as 'beligerant' she considers to be confident and assertive.

These days.... I just bite my tongue and try to move the conversation on when her memory dredges up that long ago faux pas on my part.
